Cyberstar Infocom has announced launching Hitachi's half terabyte (500GB) Travelstar 5K500 hard drive in the country.
Combining the storage capacity of a desktop with the portability and convenience of a notebook, the Travelstar 5K500 is poised to usher a new era of "slim" desktops, full-featured notebooks, gaming consoles, and other applications for consumers on the go, Hitachi said.
Available in 400GB or 500GB capacities, the new drive is touted as extremely energy-efficient, with a power profile near identical to the Travelstar 5K250. It features a 1.9 Watts read/write power draw, and a 0.7 Watts low power idle for longer battery life.
It uses perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology to deliver breakthrough capacity and reliability, storing up to 500 hours of digital video, 178 feature-length movies, 250 games, or 125,000 four-minute songs.
The Travelstar 5K250 is available with a 3.0Gb/s Serial ATA (SATA) interface for enhanced system performance, and features Hitachi-patented Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) technology, designed for full-featured NBs that commonly include premium speakers for enhancing the movie, music, and gaming experience. Typically, RVS is used as an early warning system for the drive, enabling it to sense possible disturbances in advance, and take necessary steps to stabilize the drive head and avoid disruptions.
The Travelstar 5K500 also features 400Gs of shock protection to further safeguard user data from falls, bumps, and rough handling. It features optional Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) for hard drive level data security.
The Travelstar 5K500 will be available through Cyberstar Infocom next month onwards.
What is wrong with Hitachi? They have good drives. And this 500GB small HDD is very good. Only requires USB power. People will definitely buy if price is good as there is no competition.
I agree. Hitachi marketing team has poor performance. They have too much ego.

In case the readesrare confused by the text above-as I too was- these are Notebook HDDs from Hitachi with a large capacity- only for Notebook Manufacturers- Hitachi doesn't intend to sell them except to OEMs for systems integration.
