Hi-tech Launches Virtual Keyboard

Hi-tech Launches Virtual Keyboard

Hi-tech Solutions has launched a Virtual Keyboard, which uses light to project a keyboard onto almost any surface.

Hi-tech Solutions has announced the launch of its Virtual Keyboard (VKB), which according to the company uses light to project a full-sized computer keyboard onto almost any surface.

Used with Smart Phones and PDAs, the VKB provides a practical way to email, word process and perform spreadsheet tasks, allowing the user to leave the laptop at home. VKB observes the user's finger movements to interpret and record keystrokes. Since the virtual keyboard is an image projected in light, it completely disappears when not in use, said company sources.

S. P. Moorthy, chief executive officer, Hi-tech solutions, says, "The conventional keyboard is easy to use and when the same matter is expected to be typed-in using a Pocket PC or a PDA, it is difficult. This Product gives you the comfort of using a conventional keyboard anywhere because it is just as big as a cigarette-lighter and you can carry it with you in your pocket. This will give a different dimension to the usage of PDAs."

According to sources, Hi-Tech's Virtual Keyboard simplifies the use of smart phones and PDAs, optimizing their efficiency. The cigarette-lighter-sized virtual keyboard uses laser and infrared technology to project a full-size keyboard onto any flat surface, for any PDA or blue-tooth enabled mobile phone.

According to the company the other unique features include; wireless
connection to PC, notebook, PDA and smart phone via Bluetooth, adjustable intensity and sensitivity of the projected infrared keyboard and built-in rechargeable battery with adjustable timeouts to reserve battery life.

Reports say the product can support Personal digital assistants, Cellular telephones, computers, Tablet PCs, Laptops and Kiosks, where conventional keyboards are not feasible.

The VKB eliminates the cost of maintaining mechanical keyboards in volatile locations and allows keyboard functions anywhere - home, office, clean rooms, medical & dental facilities, dirt-free environments and classrooms.

I happen to see this in an exhibition in BLR. the price is about 10K. A bit expensive for this type of a gaget. It runs on battery / ac power.
