HTC Touch HD Phone Comes to India

HTC has introduced the Touch HD smartphone with a 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen, 5MP camera, and 3.5mm jack for Rs. 42,990

HTC Touch HD, a premium mobile phone from the Touch series with a 480x800 wide touchscreen, has been launched in India.

The mobile phone features 3.5G support, aGPS, WiFi, TouchFLO 3D, and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. Targeted at multimedia and mobile Internet users, the smartphone is available for Rs. 42,990. The Touch HD will compete with other touchscreen models like iPhone 3G, Omnia, Xperia X1, and KS660.

The phone is slim at 12mm and incorporates a Qualcomm MSM 7201 processor clocked at 528MHz with a 512MB ROM and a 288MB RAM. The Touch HD sports Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and has a HTC TouchFLO 3D user interface, which at times isn't very finger friendly. With a 3.8-inch WVGA 480x800 pixel touchscreen, the phone promises better video quality. The Touch HD supports quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks, promises up to 7.2Mbps speeds for web browsing over dual-band HSDPA/WCDMA networks, and offers WiFi 802.11 b/g support.

For music lovers, the phone offers a 3.5mm audio port for hooking on any kind of headphones. GPS and A-GPS ready Touch HD has a 5 megapixel auto focus camera, so shutterbugs can enjoy geotagging convergence over faster cellular networks. The smartphone might be an ideal choice for those looking for quality multimedia entertainment with faster Internet access while 'on the go'.

With 3G services rolling out in the major cities of India, expect more touchscreen-based 3G phones to arrive this year.

HTC Touch HD is the best phone at present when compare to the best of other brands like Iphone,N96, Xpera etc... It is amazing....only thing is you must to be rich to buy this!!!.... I already had a Iphone...but I bought this phone recently which is awesome!!!!. This phone can do everything what Iphone can do and even what iphone cant do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

iPhone can run 3D games very well, and there are a huge number of good quality 3d games availble for iPhone, e.g. Brothers in Arms, Enigmo, Motochaser, and on and on and on. The HTC Touch HD has a very dismal 3d performance.

Mr Girish if you want all these features GET YOURSELF A DECENT LAPTOP.This is defini. a class appart. Just do one thing with ur iPhone ..connect to a different pc which has itunes installed on it and hell u will regret it for rest of your life. Think practical man....u should be able to use the phone as u want and not run behind the phone as dog installing the apps and restricting its usage as it wants to use.

Give stats, and some relevant data in your replies, just emptying a bucket of slime in public with no evidence doesn't make any sense. If you buy an apple produce you don't need to run behind like a dog, you will be served everything in a silver platter

pardon the spelling mistake. A laptop will not last 2 days of continuous operation, it won't fit in my pocket. And for the record I've connected my phone to several PCs, you just have to manage the syncing properly. As for being practical, it is pretty evident how practical you really are when you talk about replacing a phone with a laptop.

iPhone is the only phone that allows me to use it exactly how I want to use it. Compared to any other smartphone available, I have the largest choice of applications to select from. I get to choose the best games available. Have a look at the Apple app-store. And by the way almost all the applications available in iPhone are 3rd party application, not by apple. App store is just to verify that whatever 3rd party app i get is malware free. To top it all I can always jailbreak my iPhone within 20 minutes flat, after which i can install any damn thing i want and use it with any damn sim I want. PLEASE DO GET SOME ACTUAL INFORMATION BEFORE COMMENTING ON PUBLIC FORUMS

5 MP camera but no flash!!!! GPS but no maps!!! Just an HD 3.8" cant justify 43K...

Mr. Kabooka, Do you have even an iota of an idea of what you are talking about??? This is a 3.8 inch W-VGA screen with a 480X800 resolution, the best in any goddam handheld in the world..Beats the iPhone hands down man!!

Just having a large screen doesn't mean anything. The qualcomm processor used is rather slow and does not support any of the advanced graphics features for windows mobile. There is no hardware acceleration for 3D or complicated 2D graphics operations. Infact this is almost the same processor as in the HTC touch diamond. The graphics and UI would only become more sluggish due to large screen resolution. The multimedia in HTC phones has always been horrible compared to iPhone. The only plus point is the camera, and still images would look very good in this phone. UI, graphics, multimedia is pathetic compared to iPhone Bottom line: The underlying hardware is just not powerful enough to support such a large screen for most graphics usage. Compared to this the iPhone has a faster processor, a seperate 3D acceleration unit and full integration with the provided software, giving an amazing multimedia performance.

Well I did some more digging on the Touch HD, here are the facts: with high quality codecs like h.264 and WMV, the video playback is good only up till 320x240 resolution, any higher resolution is very slow or un-playable. With lower quality codecs like divX the playback is good up till 640x480, but no further. To achieve these results you have to install the 3rd party application "The Core Player". The inbuilt player just doesn't cut it.
