HP's Vista Woes

HP's Vista Woes

Trouble with Vista driving HP to work harder on its very own OS?

According to a recent BusinessWeek report, HP is working on a software that will let users bypass some of the features in Windows Vista to "enhance" user experience. The software is expected to make things like watching movies and photographs easier than it already is on the Microsoft operating system (OS).

There are also talks of the possibility of an HP-specific OS replacing Windows in the future. While HP has confirmed the first bit about the bypassing of features, it is tight lipped about the latter. However, a company spokesperson did confirm there have been talks amongst employees regarding a possible OS, but this is not being considered at the senior management levels. HP has also confirmed the news about a "customer experience" group under the helm of former researcher at HP Research Labs, Susie Wee. Her team would be working on touch screen interfaces and software packages for existing and future Vista users.

This comes at a time when many of Microsoft's partners are looking for greener pastures. Intel has been seen busy promoting Linux for netbooks with its Atom processors and Dell too recently jumped into the netbook bandwagon with its mini note - with Linux support, of course.

Now, the world's number one PC maker, HP, too seems to be having troubles with its long time associate Microsoft, thanks (again) to Vista -- which is struggling as ever to make any headway with regards to its popularity. It remains to be seen if the recent Service Pack boost along with the $300million ad-campaign has any effect on Vista's fortunes and eventually, on Microsoft's relations with its long-term partners.
