HP Denies VoodooPC Shutdown Rumors

Voodoo PC alive and well, says HP
Hewlett-Packard has rejected rumors suggesting that the company plans to shut down its gaming and luxury operations division, VoodooPC.
While denying the rumors, HP spokesperson Marlene Somsak, conceded, "We continually assess and rebalance the size of our workforce relative to the business environment and market conditions." However, he neither confirmed nor rejected talks of workforce slashing.
The shutdown rumor was triggered by an email circulated internally, which stated that HP is planning to cut its workforce by an unspecified number and divisions. Also, insiders reported that parts from Voodoo were being returned to suppliers.
So far Voodoo has successfully started shipping Envy 133 and the Omen desktop.
According to Rahul Sood, VoodooPC founder and CTO of HP's Global Voodoo Business Unit, "The company a good thing going about a new laptop in the works." Earlier this month, Sood gave a hint about a new undisclosed laptop in works at the The Next Bench -- the official community forum of Voodoo and VoodooDNA. Sood's enthusiasm contradicts the rumor of Voodoo shutdown.
However, in July this year, HP had announced that Voodoo brand computers would be integrated to their Personal Systems Group -- the business unit that makes consumer PCs. So, it's likely that HP may slash some workforce and also manufacture and ship Voodoo brand components all by themselves. Hence, the company might've plans to manufacture and ship Voodoo brand components all by themselves.
Incidentally, HP's Voodoo gaming outfit will be completing its second anniversary of purchase on September 28, 2008.
