Google Talk for iPhone has been announced. But will it measure up?
After having created iPhone-focused versions of nearly all Google applications, Google has finally come out with a Google Talk application for iPhone. Google Talk for iPhone, designed specifically for Apple's Safari browser on iPhone and iPod Touch, requires no installation.
Prior to this, third-party instant messaging service providers like eBuddy offered Google Talk Mobile for the mobile platform, including iPhone. Google Talk's web version, Google Talk gadget, doesn't work with Adobe Flash, which is not supported on iPhone. Thus, Google Talk for iPhone aims to overcome this pitfall.
While Google Talk is intended to give a desktop experience, it suffers from certain limitations. Being a browser-based application, Google Talk saves system resources by shutting down when any other application launches and changing the user status to "Unavailable". Most of the other features in Google Talk remain similar to that of desktop version most contacted people, search for contacts, update status messages, etc.
In the near future, users may get to chat with Yahoo contacts after the recent announcement regarding Google-Yahoo IM interoperability.

i use google talk occasionally on my blackberry and is very convenient, given the full sized proper keyboard. i just cant imagine anyone having to type using touch screen keypad! It may not work, unless they make some kind of voice recognition software...
