Gigabyte Intros First AM3 DDR3 Motherboard

Gigabyte announces first Socket AM3-based motherboard with DDR3 support built over a 2-oz copper PCB


Gigabyte has announced the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P, which is the first Socket AM3-based motherboard with DDR3 support. Gigabyte has also introduced its new Ultra Durable 3 Classic technology, which will be used for making motherboards. Asus recently introduced Asus M4A78, the first Socket AM3 motherboard sans DDR3 support. Many mainboard makers have started moving towards Socket AM3-based boards.


 


With the new Ultra Durable 3 design features, Gigabyte s AM3 DDR3 board includes new titanium and blue heatsinks. Intended for overclocking enthusiasts, the board can handle 140W processors. Gigabyte has built the AM3 DDR3 board with a 2-oz copper-layered PCB, high-grade conductive polymer capacitors, and MosFets with low RDS. In short, Gigabyte has used high quality Japanese-made motherboard components for better durability.


 


 


 


The MA790FXT will support AMD s Socket AM3 CPUs, the Phenom II CPUs, and as the name suggests is based on AMD s 790FX chipset paired with a SB750 southbridge. Also, MA790FXT is the first AM3 board announced that will support DDR3 memory.


 


This board features two x16 PCIe slots, three PCIe x1 slots, two PCI slots, two FireWire ports, ten SATA Ports, a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports, twelve USB 2.0 ports, and 7.1-channel audio with optical and coaxial S/PDIF out. Considering that such a variety of port options are available, it s obvious that this board will be slotted for the high-end hard core gaming enthusiast segment.


 


Gigabyte is also planning to introduce more Socket AM3 based motherboards: GA-MA770T-UD3P based on the AMD 770 chipset and GA-MA790X-UD4P based on the AMD 790X chipset.
