The gizmo can either be mounted on the windshield or dashboard while driving, or hand carried while sitting in the backseat of the car.
A Global Positioning System (GPS) based in-car navigation device, christened "MapmyIndia Navigator", has been launched by MapmyIndia, a leading navigable map data provider.
The sleek smart gadget uses satellites to determine a user's current location anywhere within the country. It guides people, turn by turn, with visual map instructions supported by voice prompts. The gizmo can either be mounted on the windshield or dashboard while driving, or hand carried while sitting in the backseat of the car.
Says Rakesh Verma, managing director of CE Info Systems (promoters of MapmyIndia): with GPS technology, and accurate MapmyIndia maps telling you exactly where to take your next turn, unnamed roads or unclear road signs are no longer an issue.
Navigation system in India is a great Idea, but I don?t think paying 22k for an innovative product is worth, technology will change within no time, and once purchased we cannot change it or upgrade to yet to come new systems. In Indian conditions, these kind of Navigation will be really useful only when we plan for a long drive, only during holidays. investing this much for a technology which is in need once or twice a year is not wise I feel???

Hey, If you want the map of India,, you'll get online.. just google it.. As per the poor india comes from one of the person, I think we are no more poor.. It just we don't have spending habbit and we like savings a lot.. And also, the technology is good. But I think we don't require this unless we have the complete direction setup showing the directions from one point to other. Even though with this its might not be used as heavily as it might sound. Look for an example. Most people know the topology of the city where they live and seriously if we get lost, the chap on the street helps you good. I am thinking of the situation where in west, people uses when they go for some vacation tour or similar concept. The person leaving in the city, knows much more better than the technology provided. So, if we have this system with driving direction to and fro, with recommended routes and fastest routes throught India then it will make sense.. Even giving out the routes having constructions and all on a given route will add something extra.. So dude.. just think about the target and how simple, lucid the application can be..

@gaurov I wonder why did you quote me. Anyway your statement "I think we are no more poor.." is meaningless, India is still much under poverty.

all the new things are launched with a view of getting more money. Do i see any reason for the GPS sophiticated stuff. we in india do not this at all. Do we drive so much in the indian cities that we require such stuff for navigation. If lost we ask the chaps walking the street and they would give much navigation much better. These devices are required in places like Europe and USA where travel so much city to city state to state. Do we need them really. it is definitely good navigation for new chaps but spending RS 21K or 22k for such stuff makes me laugh . will they get buyers ?? even if they get them they will purchase it for status and not really utilise it. What is missing in the information is that the one time installed device requires updation and memebership and the public will be charged throgh their noses . Pl sir we do not want such sophisticaed and complex things- pl keep them to the west only. We are still poor in India . a maruti car costs Rs 2 lacs and you want us to put in a GPS stuff for 21 K- 22K. rather we may go in for a new AC unit to keep us cool . Man keep off -we do not want such stuff . achuta

Hey,, I cant understand why people are saying 'no' to technology!!!!! Those who wants it will buy it, others dont care. Just because you do not want to use it, dont say "pls keep to the west only". I still remember people with similar mindset who went for strike against computers coming to offices. And these are the ppl who still keeps our country far away from being a developed country. Every keeps keeps saying India is a developing country.... Just think when will we become developed if this is the mindset?????

I know many people who have bought similar products for fun and as a utility. As this a new technology for India, it is currently expensive. Do not you worry, soon you will be able to buy it for your Maruti car, just wait for the prices to come down. And India is not poor. But you have the freedom to express yourself. Cheers

Just try gps from somewhere and your whole opinion will change.

I would wait for the GPS satellites launced by ISRO,, this definitely would not be as accurate as stated above. So far we have not been able to define our borders.. forget street level maps.. even the Postal dept get mixed up.. and here you are talking about people who have walked on roads.. funny.. i have walked on road in India.. but only searching....
