Friendster Launches Mobile Site Globally

Techtree News Staff, May 20, 2008 2010 hrs IST

Friendster plans to make the mobile site available in multiple languages in the coming weeks with Indonesian as the first additional language.

Friendster has globally launched its mobile site (m.friendster.com). The mobile site is accessible from any Web-enabled mobile device, and according to the company, is the first in a suite of upcoming mobile offerings henceforth referred to as 'Friendster Mobile'.

Using the mobile site, Friendster users can get updates on their friends, check messages, review requests, post shoutouts, browse photos, browse user- and fan- profiles, search for users by name or email, view birthdays, read horoscopes, and post bulletins. Initially though, users won't be able to register, create an account, and instantly begin participating in the Friendster global community.

Friendster plans to make the mobile site available in multiple languages in the coming weeks with Indonesian as the first additional language. Friendster claims to have 70 million users around the globe.

David Jones, vice president (Global Marketing) of Friendster, said, "Our users have asked for a mobile site that makes staying in touch with friends while on the go even easier. We've taken our most popular core social networking features, and made them easy to use via mobile devices at m.friendster.com."

While m.friendster.com is free for all users, users remain subject to specific carrier data and/or wireless Internet service provider plans.
