A simple way to watch Amazon's on-demand videos
A shiny new vulnerability in Adobe's Flash player will let you watch Amazon's on-demand videos, free of cost! No, we aren't going to show you how.
Of course, this has caused much controversy, what with so many people being cheated out of their money, even eliciting this acerbic comment from Bruce Schneier, CTO at British Telecom: "It's a fundamental flaw in the Adobe design. This was designed stupidly." The flaw he's referring to is that the Flash player doesn't encrypt video content--just the commands that are sent to the player. So you can use the Play button only if you're authorized, but if you find a way to bypass that, the video stream is all yours. Encrypting video will make the Flash player run a wee bit slower, which is probably why Adobe chose this path of danger in the first place.
Amazon's service lets you watch the first two minutes of a movie, and once you pay up, you can watch the rest. If you're using a media catcher, however, it'll download the movie for you anyway. There. We even gave you a hint. Shoo now.
