Sony has announced five new Cyber-shot cameras, including three W-series models with high-definition component output, and two 8-megapixel H-series models.
The new Cyber-shot W-series cameras, including DSC-W200, DSC-W90, and DSC-W80, offer direct connection to an HDTV, which according to Sony is ideal for integrating full 1080 HD photo-viewing into a home theater.
The new 8-megapixel Cyber-shot H-series includes DSC-H9 and DSC-H7, which debut Sony's new advanced sports shooting mode.
The DSC-W200 is claimed to be the most compact 12-megapixel camera in the industry, followed by the 8-megapixel DSC-W90, and the 7.2-megapixel DSC-W80 that sport Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lenses; traditional, eye-level viewfinders; and large, 2.5-inch LCD screens.
These W-series cameras are compatible with the Sony VMC-MHC1 HD component cable for simple connection to an HDTV set. They can also be used with the new Sony CSS-HD1 HD Cyber-shot Station, which comes with the component cable. Users can connect the cameras to the station just one time, which also charges the cameras.
In addition, these cameras incorporate Sony's new face detection technology, Clear RAW noise reduction technology, the new multi-point auto-focus (AF), and Super Steady Shot for optical image stabilization.
The new W-series models feature a built-in slide show function for image playback with pans, fades, and wipe transitions set to your choice of music clips. They also incorporate selectable in-camera editing functions, and are equipped with Dynamic Range Optimizer for instantly determining the best exposure and tonality of each picture.
All of the new cameras are powered by the Bionz processing engine that helps speed up the cameras' response time and extends battery life. On a full charge, the W90 camera can shoot up to 350 shots, the W80 model up to 340 shots, and the W200 unit up to 270 shots.
Coming to the H-series, the DSC-H9 and DSC-H7 are able to quick focus by predicting where the subjects would be in the frame, which helps to reduce the time of focus and shoot.
Both cameras, debuting advanced sports shooting mode, feature powerful Carl Zeiss 15x optical zoom lenses for up-close shots of big plays on the field. With the face detection technology, they can identify up to eight faces in the camera's LCD frame.
The H9 and H7 can shoot up to 1/4000 of a second, a critical speed for capturing fast-moving sports and freezing the action.
Apart from this, the two cameras incorporate similar technologies that are there in the new W-series models such as HD outputs, Bionz processing engine, Super Steady Shot, Clear RAW noise reduction technology, Dynamic Range Optimizer, and offer selectable in-camera editing functions.
The H9 sports a 3-inch, flip-up LCD screen, while the H7 has a non-articulating, 2.5-inch LCD screen. Moreover, the H9 camera is the only Cyber-shot model in this year's line to feature NightShot technology, which allows users to take photographs in environments with virtually no light.
The Silver DSC-W200 will ship in May for about $400 (Rs 17,716), while the DSC-W90 and DSC-W80 cameras will be available in March for about $300 (Rs 13,287) and $250 (Rs 11,075) respectively. The W90 will be available in Black and Silver. The W80 will come in Pink, White, Black, and Silver.
In addition, there is the DSC-W80HDPR kit, which bundles a DSC-W80 camera and Sony's DPP-FPHD1 printer package. This package consists of the VMC-MHC1 high-definition component cable, a Cyber-shot cradle, a remote commander, and a digital photo printer with high-definition component output. It will be available for about $400 (Rs 17,716) in April.
The DSC-H9 and DSC-H7 will ship in April for about $480 (Rs 21,261) and $400 (Rs 17,716), respectively.
