Crave UK gets their hands on the iRiver Spinn; first impressions inside
The boffins over at Crave UK have got their mittens on the latest iRiver and have taken it out for a Spinn. Ahem. First impressions are positive with the AMOLED screen, the touch-sensitive spin wheel, the player's audio quality, and its list of supported formats getting a thumbs-up. Here are some snippets:
"...never have we seen a screen so crisp and so bright. Images are stunning; videos are smooth and sharp."
"The slick menu system is plain but effective... Did we mention it rumbles like a phone? Clicking back through menus, for example, causes the Spinn to gently vibrate. Pointless, yes. Awesome, totally."
"Awesome too is sound quality. The Spinn supports MP3, FLAC, WAV, WMA, APE, ASF formats according to the box, but we found it also plays WMA Lossless."
"Adobe Flash games are supported. Files must be in SWF format and seem to be limited to 1MB as a maximum file size."
The biggest drawback, to us at least, is that the Spinn's capacity is not expandable. It comes in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB variants but does not support a port for memory expansion. As Crave puts it -- microSD support for this baby would have been nice.
