iPhones could be banned in the entire European Union

The Apple iPhone's dream run could be cut short by an EU directive that could possibly lead to iPhones being made illegal in the entire European Union.

Although the possibility of the ban might be bleak now, the European Union's Consumer Affairs Commissioner Meglena Kuneva seems to be no fan of Apple and has warned that dangerous goods will not be permitted to be sold in the EU. iPhones, dangerous? Well, if you were in a cocoon for the past few months, let us remind you that there have been an increasing number of complaints (mostly from within the EU) of exploding iPhones of late. These complaints received from almost all major European Union economies - Britain, France and Germany seems to have forced the EU to issue a warning.  In the latest incident, a girl was injured when her iPhone screen exploded and caught fire.

Investigators are still assessing if these so called exploding phones are in fact dubious warranty claims or genuine customer complaints. The EUCA commissioner's warning has sent warning bells ringing across the telecom fraternity. She has also warned that even if the lab tests from one member country shows that the product is dangerous, the ban would be imposed on all other countries.

Now, if this ban ever comes into force, Apple would lose quite a few potential customers from the EU. Not a good thing for Apple-especially when analysts expect 23 million more iPhones to be sold in what is left of this year. Apple on its part has confirmed that exploding screen cases are isolated incidents. Back in August Apple had confirmed (after an internal investigation) that the explosions were not the sign of a defective or dangerous product.
