The highly anticipated multiplatform game from Electronic Arts, The Sims 3, which was slated for release on February 20, has now been delayed further. The game will now launch globally on June 2, while BioWare's Dragon Age: Origins for PC has been pushed to the second half of 2009.

The multiplatform Sims 3 will also be launched on the Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch and other Mobile Devices. However, launch dates for the respective platforms hasn't been announced yet.

Though no specific reason for the delay was sighted, Russell Arons, vice president for marketing said, "The June launch combined with the breakthrough game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3. The Sims 3 will be the original IP summer blockbuster of 2009 as we build off the success of the best-selling PC franchise of all time to create awareness with both loyal Sims fans and new players."

The first version, The Sims, which was launched in 2000, soon became the best-selling game of all time.

The game will be released for PCs first, and versions for the Mac, iPhone, and iPod Touch should come later in the summer, EA said.

I'm glad they did this. I'm taking 5 classes for Spring semester so I won't have time for it now..but in June, I will have all the time in the world. PLUS, they are doing this so the game can be played on other platforms/applications, like cell phones, Mac computers, etc.

It has been delayed so they can add more DRM bullcrap into the game.

Who plays indoor games in the Summer time. Nor a smart move on the part of EA but typical.

Extreemly Frustrating and rude of EA to do this without giving us a proper reason as to why and if it is down to marketing buffs then they have just lost a customer.... ME! I had pre-ordered this for February but i have now since cancelled the order and will not buy it when it eventually does get released.

Right this is so unprofessional. Maybe they should work more than they play. I`m thinking of asking for my money back. Geez.

I pre-ordered what are they going to do about this, I can not believe that they did this. I mean who cares if they release it now, word will spread how great/awful the game is no matter what. EA should stick to their orginal word!!!!

This is complete and utter crap. They're basically saying, 'we're doing it so we can release it in the summer.' That is NOT what you do to loyal customers! You delay if there is an ISSUE, not so you can ensure product visibility; at least not when you're releasing one of the best known games in the world! I'm canceling my preorder; this is ridiculous.
