Ubuntu founder seeks development of desktops more beautiful than Apple's comps.
Ubuntu Linux founder Mark Shuttleworth is now urging for the development of desktops more beautiful than Apple's comps.
In the O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) keynote, Shuttleworth urged delegates to make a serious effort not just to catch Apple but to overtake the company in terms of the quality of desktop experience delivered to users, reports The Register.
Shuttleworth said that the great task over the next two years would be to lift the experience of the Linux desktop from something that is stable and robust and not-so-pretty into something truly artistic.

Why all the hype on how good looking a desktop is or isn't? Ones OS should be transparent, your applications should be what the OS should be for,not how pretty your screen looks. A OS should take up the minimum amount of the computers resources.

Thats really myopic ! I switched to mac , it was a premium i paid over my next PC laptop option. I paid and am enjoying the crisp look , feel and usability of a rock solid performer. I've seen and used (although briefly) the Imac 20 inch desktops. its worth every premium it demands. Computing is not just for running ERP's , programming and rendering production videos. The Mango Public (aam junta) should look forward to a better looking Linux machine. They need it !

QUOTE "A OS should take up the minimum amount of the computers resources" That probably held true in the pre windows 95 era ! when a 100mhz 16MB Ram config was standard. The mobile now runns 400Mhz .... and 128MB ram .... More power to make life a little beautiful .... i think so anyway
