According to reports, Dell has gone and quietly launched its first notebooks with chips from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). As of yesterday, these AMD based notebooks appeared for sale on Dell's Web site, sans a formal announcement from the company.
Earlier this year, there was speculation that Dell would add notebooks to its current line of AMD-based desktops and servers. And, looks like Dell has kept up the promise
Available for sale on the Dell Web site are three Inspiron 1501 notebooks.
Each of these sports a 15.4-inch wide-screen display. Significantly, all three notebooks incorporate AMD processors, ranging from the low-end Sempron processors, to the all new single-core MK-36 processors (which are not as yet listed on the AMD site), to the speedier dual-core Turion 64 X2 chips.
While the notebook with the MK-36 processor is available for the base price of $704; that with a 1.8 gigahertz Sempron is shipping for around $549; and the notebook with 64-bit Turion sports a price tag of approximately $859.
Dell has listed a preliminary ship date for all of its new AMD-based laptops as the 30th of this month.
i intend to buy a laptop of reputed make. it has a AMD Turion processor. i am buying the latop for using AUTOCAD Software. Please suggest whether i should go for a AMD Athlon64 X2 Processor TK-53 (1.7 Ghz) Dual Core or go for an intel processor for using AUTOCAD software.
I have an HP AMD Turion, and it rocks... nx 6325... Its just too good and handles multiple applications with ease.. Battery life is awesome too...
So anyone who says AMD is not fr laptops should better update his knowledge.. Infact AMD Turion is the Big Daddy cool of the boring Intel..
Hope I have go tmy point through and people wont give comments in future without knowing about anything.
Chandra, You seem to be highly uninformed as far as today's processors are concerned. Please update your knowledge on AMD processors which are actually running cooler than your normal Pentium counterparts. Core 2 Duo (Remind you Core2Duo) is a different ballgame though.
Well Said Ani, It's High Time for People to Realise the True Potential of AMD Processors rather than Sticking to Intel just for the name of Popularity...!
AMD is no good in the Laptop segment except for the fact that it can run 64-bit OS which the conroe or duo core doesnt. Turion heats up quickly and needs more power to run, both of which DONT happen in the Intel counterparts...
