Dead Space, Crysis Warhead, Mirror's Edge & More!

We got our hands on the hottest games expected to come out this year. Impressions inside

EA showed off some of the most highly-anticipated games from its stable yesterday, including games like Mirror's Edge, Dead Space and Fifa 09. We got some hands-on time with all their big and some not-so-big titles. Read our initial impressions on some of the games:

Mirror's Edge:

Clearly, everybody was looking forward to some hands-on time with this stunning title. As soon as the presentation was over, people rushed to grab the controller and spend some quality time with Faith. The game-build present at the event was the same used by EA at the recent GC. It offered a brief adventure that shows off some of the fine details in the game. First up, DICE has outdone itself, it makes their other title Battlefield Bad Company look ancient, and the visuals are absolutely stunning and compliment the game's unique style. The game's HUD is absolutely empty, which amazingly makes the city landscape look grand.

This freedom from stats and numbers does not come at a cost, as all the relevant info is still provided to you, but via visual clues. As most of you already know that Faith plays a runner and her job is to pass information through the city. So your objective is to basically run from point A to point B, but it's not very easy with loads of hurdles in your way. I spent quite some time running and sliding through the city's rooftops and escaped treacherous falls as well as bullets to reach my destination.

The game was running super-smooth without any frame-rate issues. The little tweaks like slow-mo and manga-styled speed lines add to the visual's unique style. Slow-mo proved useful while jumping long distances as you can position yourself better. This is the first game after Metal Gear Solid that encouraged me not to shoot the enemies. Whenever I was facing an enemy, I would look for escape routes that would utilize the awesome "Parkour" styled gameplay.

Look forward to our preview on Mirror's Edge very soon.

Crysis Warhead:

This game of the year 2007 will be reappearing in this new optimized avatar. The game's plot runs parallel to the original game. While earlier you played as Nomad, this time you are playing as Pyscho, a teammate from the original game who goes running after a Korean leader. The game looked great and ran super-smooth on the new optimized Crytek engine. This time mostly all of us will be able to enjoy Crysis at more than 10 FPS. I had to move along to other games, but Crysis Warhead definitely looks like a winner.

Crysis Warhead review coming up soon.

Dead Space:

This new horror title from EA has enough creeps to satisfy even Silent Hill veterans, and I know this is indeed a bold statement. I am a big fan of Silent Hill as well as Undying, two genre-defying games, and it's been a while since I enjoyed a horror title. Dead Space looks like a game that most horror fans will enjoy. The game's extremely creepy setting and unique weaponry make it an exciting prospect to look forward to.

We were promised some more hands-on time before the release, so keep watching this space for a preview.

Fifa 09:

Everybody's favorite football simulator is back, and this time it looks better than before. The game has more features and as you could concur from our demo impressions we loved the game. This time we got our hands on the full version, but it felt a little unpolished. The game didn't feel as smooth as the demo and felt sluggish. We tested the demo on the PS3, and today's build was also on the PS3, so it's obviously not the system s fault. It's quite possible that the build had a few issues.

We are hoping for a better experience when the full game is out in a few weeks.

There were quite a few games at display including MySims and Spore. We have already reviewed Spore, do check out our review. As for MySims, it looks just like a new Sims game, so it didn't really excite me that much. Sorry, Sims fans.

We will be getting more hands-on time with these games in the coming weeks. So look forward to our reviews very soon.
