DVS Launches a Unique DVD Player

Nycil George, Apr 07, 2006 1709 hrs IST

DVS Electronics has launched DVU 762A in India, the only DVD Player with an External Memory Device Reader to view snaps and play MP3s from memory cards.

DVS Electronics has announced the launch of a new DVD Player in India, the DVU 762A. According to DVS, this is the only DVD Player in India to be equipped with an External Memory Device Reader, which is compatible with Memory Stick, SmartMedia Card, SD Card and USB pen/thumb drive to view JPEGs or listen to MP3's.

DVU 762A enables you to view pictures stored on the memory cards in your digital camera or mobile phone or listen to songs cached in your memory stick or USB drive by just plugging it into the DVU 762A.

Additionally the player is also a MPEG4 compatible and is certified by DivX Technologies, USA and 3ivX Networks, Australia. Being a DVD player basically, it also plays the common DVD formats plus VCD, ACD and Picture CDs. The DVU 762A is a sleek model, with mirror finish exterior, VFD screen and a slide open panel for the Memory Device readers. The DVU 762A is reportedly customized to Indian conditions, equipped to operate smoothly even in high temperature and humidity as well as erratic power supply situations.

According to the company sources, in its second year of operations in India, DVS Electronics, with the DVU 762A, is offering its customers one of the most advanced DVD Players in the country. After the success of MPEG4 DVD Player DVX 760, DVS realized that there exists a market for products like the DVX 760 and DVU 762A, products that could have been bland if not for the additional features and utilities and thus resulted in more offerings for the Indian market.

The DVU 762A offers features like, Multimedia Card & USB storage device Playback Plays MP3 and Jpeg, MPEG4 Compatible Plays DivX, 3ivX and XviD, Plays DVD, VCD, SVCD, HDCD, DTS CD, WMA, Audio CD, MP3 and Picture CDs, Dolby Digital / DTS Digital Out, 5.1 Channel Digital and Analog Outputs, Digital Coaxial / Optical Outputs, S-Video & Component YUV outputs, 194 KHz/ 24 bit Audio DAC and Progressive Scan.

The Memory Device Reader is covered and can be opened only when required. The DVU 762A is now available in the stores across India and is priced at an MRP of Rs. 4,990.

this is DR.M.J.Shekhar Raju from Amalapuram. I bought a Pagaria DVD player from Lakshmi electronics here.he did not give me any bill.Suddenly one day the player stopped functioning there was no power supply to the system.I immediately took it to the dealer.he sent it to company at rajahmundry.it is three weeks now,i havent got back my player.i even spoke to the pagaria rep, some ashok,he said he will send me the piece very soon ,but nothing is happening.this pagaria company has a very lousy servicing system.I dont even know whom to complain now as i do not even have a proper bill or receipt.I suggest it is better to buy from good companies even though they are a bit costly, atleast we will get good service.

I am not at all confident by onida product quality. I bought a onida player Model dxf 5100 p from pune. After buying the player, on the third day the player needed to be replaced as the unit had some problem. After 7 months the lens needed to be changed and it costed me rs 800 at onida center however it was the first year of warranty only. Now it plays only dvd and doesn't recognize the cds mp3 etc. so think twice before buying the player.

I found this info on net... Hope it will work for you...and Please review this Phillips DVP5965K ASAP because im planning to buy this model... "Making Philips DVP5965K region free / code free. This hack, which makes at least Philips DVP5960 and DVP5140 code free, also works for Philips DVP5965K. Turn on the DVD player. Open the loading tray. (This is not applicable to DVP5965K because there is no loading tray.) Press Setup on the remote. Navigate to the Preferences page using the right arrow key. Enter 138931. You will now see the current region code on the screen. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select a new region, or 0 for all regions. Press Setup on the remote. Press OK on the remote."

You are most welcome Anupam. Well I finally purchased Phillips DVP5965K @5600/-. A lil bit costly but Its really a nice player with good features. The main feature is its USB interface. I have hooked 20GB 3.5" Hard disk with USB casing and its working great. All the media on Hard disk (dat,divX,MP3,JPEG) is recognized in seconds. Now I can play thousands of MP3s without changing any disk. I havent tested video files but people says that this player can handle standard Divx files very smoothly. Good work Phillips.

This DVS Electronics does not have a universal sl.no.Track on system nor does it come on-site and attend unlike other branded companies and my set does not read DVD properly but no problem with VCD or MP3. I got it repaired by them (Rs.125 auto charges) and they changed the lens (after 15 days) and now the problem is compounded. It is like a russian Roulette and displays'No Disc' for all types of discs and plays only once in a while. Before buying any DVD please ensure after sales service and service centre near your area.

Other DVD players with USB Host are Philips (DVP5965-5990) and Mitashi (DVB5333-3990). But it seems they can only play audio and JPG thru usb.

I bought latest DVS DVS player. When I tried playing DVD ( 3 no 2RCA-2RCA cable setup). Only Front speakers turned on. Other Rear/surround speakers and center speakers were silent. I could see display shows ch5.1. If I setup connection like VCD ( Use One 2RCA-2RCA cable) it turns on all speakers. Any one has any idea on this issue.

Hi Nk, No USB is meant for playing your audio on ur USB stick and no video. Forget about HDD interface using USB port on the DVD player. I would recommend LG-DS 9533 for DivX. I dont think play resumes after power failure. Beware of DVS netwrok and service.

I have decided to buy the DVU 762A model and to find a delar in Delhi I called their B'lore office. They gave me a cell number of their local sales guy. I have called him 5-10 times, to my surprise till today I didnot get any reply - the answer always is - I will get back to you. Now I decided to go with the Philips DVD. If this is the attitude towards those who enqiure to find a store to buy, imagine after sales support. Thank god I am saved. Kudos to DVS

by Rajan Menon, New Delhi, on Jun 28, 2006 12:01 PM, Report abuse   Reply

Hi, I agree with you Rajan, DVS is careless. I ask reader to think seriously before they buy DVS product. Rajan dont go for Philips Dvd player coz its has inherent DivX playing capability. U may experience picture lagging or distorted while playing divX. I suggest u better go for LG DS-9533 it has the same chipset of Mediatek 1389EE. It plays all cds just throw at them. Except for Nero MP4 disc. None in India we have a dvd player which supports Mp4.

may be this is a good dvd player who knows the availibility is question. I am in Mumbai. I could not find a single dealer for this product. Its a pathetic netwrok I guess from DVS. They dont even bother to reply the forum's question. If anyone from Delhi or Coimbatore(Bangalore) ask for the availibility then some nuts are ready to give their contact number immediately. If you do not have Nation Wide Network for the product what after sales service should we expect. Its better to go for other brands which has a very good network. Well DVS you better keeping dreaming and keep your product for your self and be happy with your flagship(for sinking ship).!

But as of now, i am using more of movie CD's for watching in my onida =poison- 32" LCD panel , with the pagaria dvd player cooperating through the DTV option in the onida tv. The movies are good, old tamil hits, some good english films. But i worry for the local dealer not being responsive to any complaints or attention, and there was an instance when i had to take the pagaria dvd player to the dealer's shop for test check and it worked there and i used available wire plugs to join connection and it finally worked. Till then i was watching movies in my HCL pc in the intervideo-real player option. I did not get my wire for home theater attachment with the dvd player and if i had missed anything, kindly provide the same. Getting attention for anything is difficult experience in this city as people like to sell and make business on anything. Then, i managed to get the C and D home theater set through a friend replacing convex 2 speaker -63 points home theater. Kindly let me know the price of the C and D home theater set and their contact address also. I expect support and assistance further. Kindly let me know whether the price of rs 3000 charged, was okay. Tell me how pagaria DVD player is different from HAIER, or other dvd players. Tell me in which all ways i can use the DVD player further as i want to use in all possible options. There are options in my onida panel for component, radio, pc, s-video, etc. Hope to hear from your end. I need the wire for the serial video option in pagaria DVD player, and explain options in the back of pagaria player for which purposes so that i can add more facilities to the existing ones. Anticipating your views and suggestions, v.harish v.harish

A few Question though 1) Does it support WMV, ASF 2) Guarantee warranty 3) Dealer in pune & Mumbai 4) Harddisk Connection ? 5) Any Back lag in comperision with other player such as Philips 5100K ? I am interested in buying that's why asking. I will prefer Mumbai location as buying but Pune as servicing coz i live in pune.

I am very much interested in this player. But looks like it doesn't have much service centers..,which is stopping me from buying this. (This is the reply I got from a famous shop in bangalore when I asked "why you are not keeping the DVS DVD players). Do you have any plan to address this ?.

by gehesh, banglore/kerala, on Apr 10, 2006 09:15 PM, Report abuse   Reply

You have to appreciate DVS is a DVD ONLY brand, unlike the others. So the need for service centres is not huge. Still, we have 2 service centres in Bangalore, one in our office on Ulsoor Road and another on Jayanagar. DVS is also one of the few companies today that offer 1 year warranty, all the smaller and cheaper brands have moved to 6 months warranty. Being based in Bangalore, you are in the best place to own a DVS player. Also, many times, stocking in many retail shops is more a factor of price, dealer margin or customer profile than service availability. You can fnd DVS products in all branches of Pai, Devi Int., Jyothis, Unilet etc, which are reputed class A dealers.

thats great.....companies like pioneer, samsung and lg must follow suit.... then ill buy that..... dvs is too unknown a brand....but the price is bloody good! i heard that dvs uses the same components as the large manufacturers from the same oems....so i might wanna see the fit and finish.....only if it blows me away totally ill think about it but by the looks of it its already lost some points

by frankmehta, mumbai, on Apr 07, 2006 07:23 PM, Report abuse   Reply

DVS not only uses the same components, DVS has provided components and finished products for companies like Philips, LG, Samsung, TCL, Arcam, Hyundai, Ford, Blaupunkt etc all over the world for Home DVD and Car DVD. India is the only country DVS sells in its own brand, purely because the Indian market is the second biggest DVD market in the world and is not as cluttered as China (which is the biggest market).

awesome.. i guess this beats my philips dvp 642 :(

by Hazard, CS, on Apr 07, 2006 05:40 PM, Report abuse   Reply

yeah buddy .. even i am having DVP 642 .. actually sometimes it gives problems in resolution lackness in between frames occasionally in playing latest XVID movies (generally 1.4 Gb DVD RIPPED movies) .. However i don't think that external memory will be needed much cuz of their capaticyt problems ... i mean its just an extra feature which i guess might be UNDERUSED due to clip size contraints.

by Vaibhav, Delhi, on Apr 09, 2006 08:43 AM, Report abuse

The external memory device would not really be underutilised. Apart from mp3 and jpeg, this player also plays mpeg1 and mpeg4 clips. Think of the times when you want to view snaps clicked on the camera phone, but do not have the time or the datacable / IR / BT / Laptop needed to transfer from memory card to PC. You just plug the card in and there it is. In fact, 99% of the people who have bought this have opted for this player over the Philips DivX player just because of this facilty.

by DVS, Bangalore, on Apr 10, 2006 01:01 PM, Report abuse

Delhi-based Pagaria already has a similar product which was launched several months back, almost a year. Hazard, the 642 remains one of the best DivX players ever: don't throw it yet!

Please give me the deatails of Pagaria in Delhi. Their number please.

by Kundhan, Simla, on Apr 09, 2006 09:51 AM, Report abuse

There have been a couple of players launched with this facility. However, the availability is a question mark. Also, you need to be sure about the licences etc. The 642 is DivX licence paid, so is the DVU 762A. Playability and after sales support will be much superior for these brands than many other ones. Beware of the cheaper brands, it usually means they are selling without licences, as well as with no after sales support from the factory in China / Taiwan / HK.
