Clearly, Philips Research Labs is a geek paradise. This is where the company works on upcoming technologies and has given birth to many of the innovations that went on to become household stuff.
On a recent visit to the Philips Research Labs, Gizmodo's Jesus Diaz happened to come across a cool magnetic LED display that allows you to build a 2D or 3D display by simply rearranging the pieces of LEDs that are held together by strong magnets.
The LEDs are pre-programmed using a camera to feed in the basic structure of the animation to be displayed. Following that, it is animated randomly. Every set of LEDs is intelligent enough to know its location with respect to the position of the other sets and that results in a great display of animation. The sets are attached magnetically to each other and their places can be interchanged.
