Curious Malware Specimens of 2008

The "most romantic" earned by Nuwar.OL, Nuwar.QI, and Valentin.E; all hopelessly resorting to 'Cupid' to do their dirty work.

The interesting sounding "Virus Almanac 2008" is out; Panda Security has published a list of viruses that for one reason or the other stood out during the first six months of 2008.

The title of "creepiest" goes to MalwareProtector2008 and AdvancedXpFixer -- both 'virtual cockroaches' that 'eat' users' desktops.

The "cleanest" crown goes to Tixcet.A, a worm that simply loves cleaning hard disks so much so there is nothing left to clean in the end.

PGPCoder.E aka "kidnapper", a new kind of ransom-ware (if you will) that holds data on a computer hostage, then proceeding to demand ransom.

The "most romantic" earned by Nuwar.OL, Nuwar.QI, and Valentin.E; all hopelessly resorting to 'Cupid' to do their dirty work.

"Most informative" being Romeo.C that offers breaking news and fools users into thinking they are being put up to speed with the latest developments.

The "imposters", a title shared by Manclick.A, Manclick.B, and Manclick.C; all three passing themselves off as legitimate applications when they're actually not.

FakeDeath.A or "most deceitful"; it announces the death of who else but Fidel Castro to infect computers.

"Prophet of the Apolcalypse" or RenameLoi.A that makes a song and dance about the Antichrist and Judgement Day.

This one's bizarre, "cool pig" which goes to MSNWorm.EI, a worm that ends up showing a photograph of a decked-up pig complete with make-up and sunglasses.

"BeepBeep.A" [no prizes for guessing] is the "noisiest" and throws a fit (a series of annoying beeps) to draw attention to itself.

You could take a look at the list here.
