Asus is showcasing its Eee Box B202 at the ongoing "Computex 2008" at Taipei, Taiwan. Described as "a really small desktop," the Eee Box measures 8.5(h) x 7(w) x 1(d)-inches, weighs 6.6 lbs, and could be mistaken for the Nintendo Wii. Asus said the Eee Box will be available in different variations across the globe. It's configuration is as follows: OS: Linux System/Hardware Compatible with Windows XP Processor: Intel Atom N270 (1.6 GHz, FSB 533) Memory: DDRII 512MB/1GB/2GB Storage: 80GB/120GB/160GB/250GB Chipset: 945GSE + ICH7M VGA: On-board Intel GMA 950, 1600 x 1200 maximum resolution Networking: 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN, 802.11n WLAN, Bluetooth optional SD/MMC/MS slot: SD, SDHC, Mini SD, (Micro SD through adapter); MMC, MMC plus, MMC4.x, RS MMC, RSMMC4.x (MMC mobile through adapter); MS, MS PRO Audio: Azalia ALC888 Audio Chip The front panel of the Eee Box has 2 USB ports, a card reader, a headphone-out jack, as well as a microphone (mic). The rear of the desktop features another 2 USB ports, Gigabit LAN, DVI-out, Line-Out (L/R) with S/PDIF, and Wi-Fi antenna. The Eee Box packs accessories including a 19Vdc, 4.74A, 65W power adaptor, Wi-Fi antenna, and stand. You could also opt for mouse, keyboard, as well as a VESA mount. In the US, the Asus Eee Box will sport a price tag between $269 and $299. The Box is expected to hit their online markets only later this year.

If its an Asus board, then will it have the Splashtop embedded Linux instant on option? All new Asus mobos are supposed to have it. If it does, how about you mention to folks that Splashtop means that instead of loading up your OS, you can immediately access Firefox, Skype, instant messaging and a photo viewer. RIGHT AWAY. If Apple had came out with this, we would be talking about how it changed computing. Isnt slow loading times something we have been complaining for years?

Asus will laugh itself to the bank while other companies scramble to copy it and make something similar. Everyone has been ignoring the need to have a low power download rig today.

A Mac Mini replacement, that does it with Style ;). This looks good. I hope it takes off. Only that the specs are a bit lame - but still it is priced great.
