The US retail chain, Circuit City Stores, has joined hands with Napster to offer a new digital music service, called "Circuit City + Napster". "Circuit City + Napster" is powered by Napster's digital music subscription service and will include the same music discovery and community features such as personalized recommendations, message boards, as well as the ability to browse the collections of other members and share music and play lists. The new service, starting this Sunday i.e. April 29, will give consumers unlimited access to millions of songs for $14.95 (Rs 623) per month. In addition, customers can purchase individual song downloads at 99-cents (Rs 40) each. There are also pre-paid download cards available in-store and online in bundles of 15, 25 or 60 tracks. Besides, "Circuit City + Napster" consumers will also get some exclusive tracks on a weekly basis, which is not available to Napster users. On this occasion, Irynne V MacKay, Senior Vice President and General Merchandise Manager of Entertainment, Circuit City Stores, said, "Circuit City + Napster will offer our customers a new avenue to find, share and delight in music." Chris Gorog, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Napster, too believes that Circuit City's strength both in consumer electronics and as music retailer should be an ideal environment to introduce Napster's industry leading music subscription service. Meanwhile, those consumers interested in signing up "Circuit City + Napster" can visit http://www.circuitcity.com/napster. The new subscribers are entitled to the first month of free access along with five free songs downloads.
