Named after the Greek God of War "Ares", the PC looks ready for war and intimidates you with its stunning looks loaded with attitude.
At the Asus show at CeBit 08, the launches that really stood out were one outright monster of a PC called "Ares"; the EAH3870X2 -- supposedly the fastest graphics card on the planet; and of course the next iteration of their Eee PC (we've already written about).
The story from our correspondent is:
Named after the Greek God of War "Ares", the PC looks ready for war and intimidates you with its stunning looks loaded with attitude, even before you take a look at its configuration. Honestly, I have never been too fond of the Asus Vento cabinet designs. But this one managed to capture my imagination. It's good enough to give good old Alienware a run for their money.
Coming to the configuration of "Ares", it hosts 4 Intel Core 2 Extreme grade CPUs, 4 x 2GB (total 8 GB) DDR2 1066 MHz RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive, and 3 Nvidia 8800 Ultra graphics cards in a three-way SLI setup. A Light Scribe DVD writer, 10-in-1 card reader, fingerprint scanner, and special Asus Gaming keyboard and mouse are bundled. The whole setup is liquid-cooled and is powered by 2 x 1000W power supplies. Phew!
Asus also displayed what is arguably the fastest standalone card currently available. The Asus EAH3870X2 based on ATI Radeon HD3870 X2 GPU has 2 graphic cores running at 850 MHz and 1 GB of GDDR3 Memory running at 1.9 GHz with an effective 512-bit memory bus.
