Doom coming as well

John Carmack, founder of id Software, is well known for programming legendary games like Wolfenstein, Quake, Doom, and even the upcoming Rage. Yesterday, Carmack released the open source port for Wolfenstein 3D for the iPhone platform. Soon, App Store will have id Software's Wolfenstein 3D Classic available for FPS fans.

Carmack was already enthused by the idea of using iPhone as a gaming platform and had referred to it as 'graphical tour de france.' Last June, Carmack gave hints about releasing iPhone ports for popular id Software games like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein.

Wolfenstein's open source port is available here for download for jailbroken iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Carmack has also attached an iPhone development document of 5100 words.

You can play as the OSA super agent B.J. Blazkowicz who has to defeat Nazi soldiers in order to escape from Castle Wolfenstein. The game will include six episodes with 60 classic levels. The non-stop first-person shooter action game will soon be available from Apple App Store as per the company's official landing page for the game. We can expect Doom to follow soon after Wolfenstein makes its way to the App Store.

Carmack noted that the iPhone platform is powerful enough to handle massive multiplayer action games via Bluetooth connectivity. Coincidentally, Apple has added the peer-to-peer connectivity feature via Bluetooth in the new iPhone OS 3.0 update.

We expect more of id Software's classic games to be hitting the App Store after Apple releases the final version of the iPhone OS 3.0 update.
