Canon has unveiled 4 new point-and-shoot cameras for its PowerShot series. These include the PowerShot SD1100 IS, PowerShot A470, PowerShot A590 IS, and PowerShot A580.
Following Sony's addition of 8 new Cyber-shot cameras for all its series, now Canon has unveiled 4 new point-and-shoot cameras for its PowerShot series. The new cameras include updates to Canon's stylish "Digital Elph" line, as well as 3 new additions to the much celebrated "PowerShot A" line.
For its Digital ELPH line, Canon introduced the PowerShot SD1100 IS, an ultra-compact 8-megapixel camera. The SD1100 is the successor to last year's SD1000 Digital ELPH, adding optical image stabilization to its 3x optical zoom lens. The camera will feature Digic III image processor, 18 shooting modes, and face-detection for up to 9 people per photo which lets the shooter select a single face in the crowd to keep in focus.
The PowerShot SD1100 IS will be available in 5 colors -- brown, pink, blue, gold, and silver. It's schedule for a March release for approximately $250.
The PowerShot A series includes the 7.1-megapixel PowerShot A470, as well as the 8-megapixel PowerShot A590 IS and PowerShot A580.
The 3 new cameras in the A series share the same 115,000-pixel, 2.5-inch LCD, and function on AA batteries. They also feature Canon's DIGIC III image processor, face detection, automatic redeye correction, and a motion-detection system that tracks both subject and camera movement and adjusts ISO and shutter speed settings accordingly. Additionally, they have a top light-sensitivity setting of ISO 1600, and share VGA video capture with sound at 20fps, among several other features.
The A590 IS and A580 feature an optical viewfinder, whereas the A470 gives it a miss. The A470 offers an f/3.0-5.8, 38-132mm 3.5x zoom lens, while the other 2 models provide f/2.6-5.5, 35-140mm 4x optics.
The A470 will be sold with red, blue, orange, and silver finishes.
The A series cameras will be available in March this year. The alleged price of these cameras is -- A470 for $130, A580 for $150, and A590 at a price of $180.

Not understandable why Canon is not moving to 28-140 mm zoom lenses on its digi cams- it is losing out to Sony in this aspect.

When will these idiots support 3:2? I can then dump my SLR and use a P&S when it's convenient and get proper studio detail on the shots.
