Canon 50D Available for Pre-order

The 15.1-megapixel successor to the EOS 40D will be available come October
Those of you waiting to hear about the release date for the Canon EOS 50D -- the DSLR will be available October 6th onwards. While Canon has not put across this date officially, the date of availability on Circuit City shows that the 50D will be obtainable then onwards. In fact, the camera is available for pre-order right now.
Canon had announced an indistinct October release for the 50D last month.
What's special about the Canon 50D -- for starters, it's the successor to the one of the most coveted Canon DSLRs (EOS 40D) in the semi-professional category of cameras.
The improved 50D shows a 5.1-megapixel jump over its forerunner, featuring an APS-C sized 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor. The camera also sports a DIGIC 4 image processor, and is capable of shooting upto 6.3 fps up to 90 JPEGS using UDMA CF cards; 60 consecutive JPEGS or 16 RAW using standard CF cards, says Canon.
Users will be able to avail the Live View function on a refined 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots) monitor. The camera will also feature a Live View Function with face detection, plus some new automatic Image Correction settings and HDMI output for viewing images on an HDTV.
The 50D is currently available for pre-order for a price of $1,399.99 (body only), and for $1,599.99 (kit with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens).
India currently has the Canon EOS 40D (with 18-55mm IS lens) available in the market for a little less than 60K. Its successor too should make the grand Indian entry not soon after.
