Groups of fans who've been very vocal about their support for XP, had even started a "Save XP" petition on the Internet.
June 30th has arrived and it's time to bid adieu to Microsoft's very popular Windows XP operating system (OS).
Despite umpteen protests from fans of the OS who're reluctant to switch over to its successor Vista, there isn't much that can be done to now save XP. Microsoft will stop selling the OS to retailers and major computer makers like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. It may not become extinct -- not just yet; stores and PC makers tend to work through their stocks. But the day the stocks are rid of computers loaded with XP, die-hard fans will have to live with buying Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then (if they want to) legally 'downgrade' to their favorite system. Sad, isn't it?
Yes, ultra-low-cost PCs with limited hardware will continue to have a version of XP until Jan next year. Also sundry PC shops might continue to buy and resell XP -- again, through the end of Jan next year. Microsoft even announced full technical support for the system through 2009 and limited support through April 2014. But that is that.
Nothing like what Steve Ballmer promised a few months ago: if fans so desire, XP will continue beyond June 30. Groups of fans who've been very vocal about their support for XP even started a "Save XP" petition on the Internet. They insisted Microsoft keep selling XP till the release of Windows 7 expected sometime in 2009. Alas, in vain!
No Need to Worry. There is No dearth of good old "pirates" in India. I have got my WinXP pro with SP2 & it will humbly serve the needs of my whole Colony. he he....
Out of curiosity, I upgraded to Vista for several months, leaving my trusted XP behind.
My printers, which were Vista compliant, never worked right while under Vista's command.
It cost me over $250 just to have XP (or any OS) put back on my computer.
No more Vista for me!! EVER!!!!
Seriously guys... give "ubuntu studio" a try.... I've got xp and ubuntu installed in my system... Most of the time i find myself on ubuntu... i come to windows only to access a few apps like guitar pro and to do some recording... im not much into games, so not much to do in xp... and ive got many windows apps to run on ubuntu using WINE..
Vista is really a crap...The only hope is the upcoming Windows 7. God knows what will that be ! We hav to ultimately leave our favorite XP OS for no reason.
I am very happy at the moment with my genuine Windows XP laptop purchased in 2004. I have upgraded the hardware several times. I have used Vista a lot on my cousin's Thinkpad. However I have not liked using Vista one bit. Even my cousin is fed up of Vista OS inspite of having a very high end laptop, the Vista OS simply crawls. I have decided that my next purchase will definitely be a Macbook. Many people like me are looking at alternate OS other than Vista. Also many others are waiting for Vista successor - Windows 7 but that will come in 2009-2010. Microsoft's loss will be Apple and Linux gain.
Yes XP, is a stable OS and one of the Gud product of MS porfolio.
Linux has it's area of work. I work entire day on linux/unix OS at office, but i will not prefer it to have at Home computer.
Regarding Vista, it's not that bad as people claim it, one perticular thing all talk about it is that Hardware requirement.
Comon OS is designed to have benifit of future hardware, that are more fast and going to be more cheaper.
You don't look at Past and desing the OS which will perfomr gud on old Hardware.
I have installed Vista (Clean install), and it has till date never crashed, no hang,
just few old software compatibility issue, which are going to be resolved by time.
ok then go ahead & use IMAC or Linux....Please do not complain abt the XP.. First u should use IMAC/Linux fully and then i am also sure u will never complain abt microsoft or xp
come on guys , vista isnt as sucky as u claim, it is expensive i agreee , but if they are phasing out XP they better reduce the cost of vista or people are gona move to linux ,and also outside india many countries use IMACs and to be very frank i use a top of the line IMAC g5 with 6 gb ram and a 7600 card on it in college and its suckier than any darn computer on earth ,it just looks good and performs like shit, vista is a lot better than the competition and has a lot of features the stereotype indian crowd doesnt have the brains to utilise,we just stick to one company till the company dies
cas in example 'NOKIA" in cell phones darn everyone knows nokia but they still buy nokia cuz their minds can accept any changes, no offence but the indian mentality is pretty stale
