Buffalo Intros 400GB External HD

Techtree News Staff, Dec 24, 2007 1833 hrs IST

The MiniStation 400GB TurboUSB is a 5400rpm hard drive that not only helps users store large amounts of data on the move, but also delivers benefits of Buffalo TurboUSB technology.

Buffalo has announced the first ever 400GB portable external hard drive (HD-PS400U2) in the MiniStation series.

The MiniStation 400GB TurboUSB is a 5400rpm hard drive that not only helps users store large amounts of data on the move, but also delivers benefits of Buffalo TurboUSB technology. The key benefit being considerable acceleration in file transfer rates and performance up to 64 percent, the company claims.

A shock-resistant USB 2.0 portable hard drive, the HD-PS400U2 comes with a wrap-around cable for easy storage. It features a tough durable outer case and a shock-absorbent internal design, based on new improved floating structure.

No external power supply is required as it has the ability to draw power from the PC it is connected to. Plug-n-play capabilities allow the 400GB external hard drive to connect to any USB 2.0 port on a desktop, laptop, or Buffalo network attached storage device where software is loaded.

With Buffalo's Secure Lock Ware (SLW) utility1, data can be protected with up to 256bit AES Encryption technology. Further protection is afforded by multi-lingual Memeo Auto Backup software for Windows that offers improved back-up options.

The 400GB TurboUSB MiniStation range is available in India for Rs 19,999, along with a limited two-years warranty.

This is too expensive! Lacie has got 320GB available at 84euros (i have just bought it) at Finland. Also in india the best option is to modify laptop hard drive as suggested by SCORP. These are quite rugged, require no external power source and the hardware guy will provide you with a case if you bargain right!!

u can create u r own external hard disk... go to a local harware vendor and ask him to take a laptop hard disk and prepare a external hard disk.. he will do it with proper leater casing as well... and all these for just 1000 bucks

Considering you get 1 TB external USB hard disk with a Power supply which is much more stable and rugged for some 12K ... why would you spend 20K ?

I feel external drives should not be very large in capacities as these are always prone for accidental loss of data mainly due to (mis)handling. In case anyone needs a backup of 400GB (s)he should resort to other medium. More the capacity more data is at risk! What is important is the flexibility to carry big file that can be easily carried on even on smaller sized drives at a far lower cost.
