BitTorrent, notorious for the sharing of pirated music and videos, has now tied-up with video Web site, Brightcove, to make for faster streaming over the Internet. The new content delivery service called 'BitTorrent DNA' is targeted at commercial content publishers, including media companies, software firms, and video game publishers. The service would enable faster downloads of larger files like feature-length movies, games, software programs, thus making it possible to easily stream Broadcast-quality video. According to Ashwin Navin, president and co-founder of BitTorrent, "The Internet has become an essential source of entertainment for everything from music to games to TV shows, even high-definition movies." Hence, 'BitTorrent DNA' combines traditional delivery technology with peer-to-peer (P2P) technology. It enables users of BitTorrent software to receive streaming video from servers, as well as from other PCs where files have been already downloaded. Basically, while a user downloads content using the service, some content would simultaneously get uploaded from the user's machine. Apart from streaming videos, the new service will also distribute videos and software downloads. Presently, BitTorrent is being used in over 150 million PCs the world over -- this, since its release in 2001. Not surprising, it has come to be known as one of the most popular tools for downloading copyright content -- although illegally.

Bit Torrent has revolutionized internet and people's habit.Bear in mind that no matter how much bandwith your ISP provides, if it was not for bittorrent then internet would not have seen the growth it has seen over last few years. Itunes would not have gained such popularity if people did not get into the habit of ' digital downloads ' as has been seen before..your habit triggers your spending. As far as illegal downloading is concerned...that's a propaganda by RIAA and MPAA who has termed it as ' Stealing '. If I am willingly sharing something with someone and at the end of the day it still stays with me then how come it is being stolen? A small example on the loss of revenue and hitting artist's belly with sharing..The Dark Knight was the most shared movie of all time with millions sharing the file.Yet it has shattered the Box Office result of all time and has collected over a Billion USD worldwide.Talk about Loss here !

Illegal only in the eyes of the copyright holder which invariably turns out to be the producer/producing company. In the case of music most musicians are actually quite happy that their music is being heard by more and more people. Those who use torrent clients "share" their music and movies, which is as it should be.
