Ballmer To Take Windows To The Clouds

Ballmer To Take Windows To The Clouds

Ewigen Zyniker, Oct 02, 2008 0817 hrs IST

"Windows Cloud" may be upon us soon

Clearly not one to be left out in this wonderful age of The Cloud, Steve Ballmer has announced that Microsoft will soon unveil Windows Cloud, a "new operating system designed for the cloud."

It's high time we saw some vapor spew forth from these fronts, what with everyone talking cloudy these days. Right now, the only semblance of cloud computing we've seen from Redmond have been a couple of Windows Live services, which is really just anemic when you look at what Google has on offer for us Web-dwelling cloud computers. The idea is to make Windows Cloud the answer to desktop Windows itself: "Just like Windows Server looked a lot like Windows but with new properties, new characteristics and new features, so will Windows Cloud look a lot like Windows Server."

Honestly, all the cloud talk just clouds our already clouded vision. We just want to see better Web apps, sans buzzwords. You too, yes?

Hey! I heard that Microsoft was working on some cheap Touch Screen Technology for a new OS. Before that it is this. IS this a Web based OS.

Whenever there is talk of Google making an entry in the OS market. I remember a statement somewhere which came from a Google source." Why do we need to have a full fledged Filesystem when we can just index and search". And now with the weather getting so cloudy.... I am getting the feeling that Google may never really need to make a full fledged operating system. It will just provide a light weight skin to any OS that we install. And all the rest of the applications will be web based. After all the OS is supposed to just be an interface. Now in perspective. I see chrome growing not just to become a browser. But into a system that will enable us to manage all the functions of the OS in a minimal way.... Sounds far fetched. Yes.. But then who had expected a browser from Google until they launched it.
