As of now, this offer is available only to selected parts of Uttar Pradesh.
There was a time when landlines dominated the Indian telephone sector. With the advent of the ubiqutous mobile and subsequent cut-throat competition, tariffs have dropped and the mobile phone is now no longer considered a luxury. With mobile penetration even reaching remote corners of the country, the landline is struggling to maintain a loyal user base - even in rural India!
In a bid to lure users from the rural markets, BSNL has recently announced a plan in Uttar Pradesh where users have to pay a monthly installment of Rs. 20. Another option BSNL offers is a payment of Rs 200 at one time eliminating the monthly charge. With this offer, customers can avail of 20 free calls per month. With Bollywood star Preity Zinta endorsing the brand, BSNL sure hopes to strikle it rich in the landline telephone section.
As of now, this plan is offered only to selected rural areas in Uttar Pradesh, perhaps as a testing ground. If things go well, we could soon see this plan being extended to rural areas in other parts of the country.

Absolute CRAP! The BSNL fellows are only fooling people by their huge ads,The actual configurations (about connectivity & speed) are far away from the said ones. Also the officials and staff,They only come to their offices like "DEVATAS" tobe worshiped by the stupid customer.

Its way the BSNL is misguiding people, they are not able to give transfer with 1km in list 3 YEAR. Due to not availble of cable. How they make it.

Its way the BSNL is fooling people. The first and most imp thing BSNL Should rem is to get good people on Board. When a person goes to pay the bill he has to stay in line for 2 hrs after which the person says the computer is not working. If this is the case pls remove such people. and hire new people. I personally had applied for a BSNL Broad plan which and paid a deposit of INR 500. which i disconnected the service a year back but till date i havent received the money. I have lost hope of getting the money back as if i run behind them for money i will waste more then what i am going to get.

sorry friend...but nowadays you can pay your landline and other BSNL bills online...so who the hell will go to their office and stand in that line

I agree with you, its a gimmick. Also, people do get a raw deal at the BSNL offices and even on phone. But, they are on a correction path. Lets hope things get better in the attitude and upkeep.

Its a very imp point raised by him and lakhs/crores of people will give a similar feedback. Please send this to BSNL top guys including Minister of telcom if they can bring about some significant change in service to customers.

Very true, not only that you need to wait in line but the staff is absolute bunch of useless humans who are good for nothing and never work. I think these Govt. offices and services require a mass cleanup to compete with the private sector
by Viru, Delhi, on Jul 24, 2008 04:23 PM, Report abuse
As far as bill payment is concered pls note that there are various option given by BSNL, one is ECS clearing, second is pay in banks by cheques or deposit cheques. You donot know this then it is a problem of BSNL? Broad band service is one of the best services it gives. Airtel or Tata are fooling peoples by big advertising, it is my personal experiance.

It is high time BSNL with all Technical/Commercial strength should give run for the money to the Private Telcos Come on BSNL - You can do it Pl introduce All India this plan and Educate people to use MAX land line to avoid all the Health prob from the Mobile Phone!!!!
by Easwar, Coimbatore, on Jul 24, 2008 07:14 PM, Report abuse Reply
BSNL - Bkwas/Bekar Hai Mere Liye. My BSNL land line goes dead for 10 days every month for last 6 months. The cable to our area is stolen. BSNL simply replaces the cable with TAX payers money. The only reason to stick to BSNL is broadband. The Day Airtel comes with its 8 Mbps plan, BSNL Land line is finished.

"COMPLETE BULLSHIT" BSNL only fools people by their fake advertisements. Actually they never give the customer that technical configurations which they announce in their adsvery proudly.I have a FWT connection for internet, on which they say that the customer will be provided by 230 kbps speed but since i have taken the connection i haven't got the said speed. It allways runs around 40-50 kbps. On Sundays it drops to 5-10kbps.When i talked to the local SDO telecom he said we are working on it & this line he repeats again and again. Ones i got the privilage to talk to the DOT ,"SAHAB" says-"YE MERA KAAM NAHI HAI, SDO SE BAAT KIYA KAARO" and banged the reciever.Hats 'off ' to BSNL and Miss ZINTA.

even this 20 rs plan may be like that. they will definitely charge the rest of the amount in the monthly bills.

What ever they offer, But when we get the bill, we will see entirely different things in it. They will add the intital charges in the monthly bill and it will push the middle calss families in the difficult situation to pay the bills.

great step forward by BSNL: these days we are seeing that every member in a house is having a mobile phone in his pocket.this the situation every where whether you go to city or to far area where the services are not even up to minimum standard.in these areas no land lines are available and even if available are out of reach of a poor village man .to cope up with the competitive mobile operators ,who are providing a lot of money saving, less monthly charges plans,BSNL land line require a plan like this .

As a customer we should appreciate this plan.. but just think that why most of the government companies running in loss... because of this stupid plans.. they have to think some other way to attract customers... yes ofcourse it is cheapest but its service is worst among others.

BSNL IS SUPPOSED TO BE A ORGANISATIN WHO ALWAYS CHANGE ITS POLICY AND THAT IS WHY PEOPLE GET FRUSTATED. IT ALWAYS SEEN THAT OFFERS SOME THING AND IN BILL PEOPLE FIND TOTALLY DIFFERENT AMOUNT

Really good Plan, But how far it will be fixed to it. Gaining the popularity they change the plan and make the people in confusion state when the time come for paying the bill. And Secondly the most important of all is the Support, this where its lacking once the customer take the connection and if he face with any problem then comes the main picture, how much support is provide to resolve the problem and in how much time its cleared
