BSNL, IOL Broadband Tie for IPTV

Techtree News Staff, Jan 03, 2007 1842 hrs IST

IOL Broadband has reportedly tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited for Internet Protocol television (IPTV) services to BSNL subscribers.

IOL Broadband (India on Line Broadband) has reportedly tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for Internet Protocol television (IPTV) services to BSNL subscribers.

The company has already started trials of the IPTV service on the BSNL broadband network in Bangalore, and its IPTV and video on demand (VoD) services will be formally launched in Bangalore on 14 January, 2007, with other cities following suit later this year.

Apart from this, for the IPTV service, IOL Broadband has also signed a revenue sharing agreement with Anytime, a group of major Hollywood Studios, including Disney, Fox, Warner, and Universal.

According to the company, under the agreement, IOL IPTV subscribers will enjoy viewing Hollywood movies without any commercial breaks, that too months before they are broadcast on satellite TV.

Moreover, IOL Broadband sees itself as a third alternative to CAS and DTH as it's IPTV service gives viewers total and interactive control over TV and video media, along with full play functions such as pause, rewind, fast forward, and store.

IOL Broadband had earlier signed a similar agreement with MTNL in October 2006. The company claims to be a pioneer in IPTV services, and the first to commercially roll-out IPTV services across the country through tie-ups with public sector telecom majors, MTNL and BSNL.

ON 29TH DECEMBER 2006, THE BROADBAND SERVICE IN THE ENTIRE ORISSA RECEIVED A SERIOUS SET BACK, AS THE EQUIPMENT AT BHUBANESWAR WAS SAID TO BE DAMAGED. THIS RESULTED IN A WEEKDAYS BROADBAND BLINDNESS IN THE ENTIRE ORISSA. THANKS TO THE CMD OF BSNL WHO DREAMS 2007 AS THE YEAR OF BROADBAND. WE HAVE TO WAIT AND WATCH, WHAT AND HOW MUCH QUALITY AND SPEED WILL 2007 SEE IN BROADBAND SERVICE IN ORISSA, THE LEAST BOTHERED STATE IN INDIA, WHERE INTELLUCTUALS CANNOT LIVE.

Open querry to Minister of Telecom Mr Maran, CMD BSNL, Govt of India: For Home 250, it was 400 MB UL/DL with 256 kbps speed, for Home 500, it was 1 GB DL/UL with 256 scheme and for Home 1000, it was 2.5 GB DL/UL with 256 kbps and these all now upgraded . For Home 1000 users they have to pay only Rs 500 with speed enhanced 8 times, mean, 256 to 2MB where as there is not any relief given to UL 900 users, either in rent nor in speed. Shall they reply me, why? Now for UL 900 customers: Shift to Home 500 and get 2.5 GB DL/UL wiht night free and save Rs 400+12.24% tax

Bull shitt... Just another way to milk the customer... If IPTV is launched with such capped bandwidth plans then it will only benefit BSNL... They get more revenues 'coz download limit would be reached soon with continous data transfer of IPTV....
