The company claims the new site is based on Buongiorno's XHTML technology, and sports the look and feel of an icon-based rather than text-based WAP site.
BPL Mobile, along with Buongiorno, is offering consumers an icon-based WAP site at wap.mizone.bplmobile.com.
The company claims the new site is based on Buongiorno's XHTML technology, and sports the look and feel of an icon-based rather than text-based WAP site.
The new WAP site features: 'application adaptation' wherein if a particular handset supports a video streaming player, the site would then show Mobile TV; 'content adaptation' whereby the site renders different content to different users depending on the ability of their handsets; 'display adaptation' by means of which the site renders content in a way so as to fit the display screen size and other supported features; and 'automatic selection' of either WML- (text-based WAP) or XHTML- WAP depending on the type of handset.
According to Sunzay Passari, vice president, value-added services and devices, BPL, the new site is different from current WAP sites in that it is more user-friendly, and uses XHTML instead of WML as language.
XHTML is a technology designed to speed-up the creation of services, and enhance the usability of wireless services for consumers. While it has already received phenomenal support globally, in India, it's still in its nascent stage.
