Asustek chairman Johnny Shih revealed that a low-cost smartphone dubbed the Eee Phone is in the works

Asus had rather novel product prototypes to show at the CES 2009, and the Eee keyboard managed to catch everyone's attention. In an interview with NY Times, Asustek chairman Johnny Shih shared his views on making digital products a part of everybody's life in the future.

Shih envisioned that bigger screened computers should be a part of a family living room instead of the family crowding around a small computer screen. Going a step ahead with that, he added that a mirror should convert into a large screen when tapped. For controlling such a screen, Asus is working on a low-cost smartphone dubbed the Eee Phone. Shih explains, "the Eee phone may become an interactive control, the whole digital network is the key."  It's also been speculated that this Eee phone will have hardware made from low-cost materials and will run on the Android platform.

Asus conceives the Eee phone as one of the Digital Living Network Alliance certified products that manage and control different digital devices at a smart home. The future is definitely going to be interesting.
