Asus has launched the DRW-1608P2S, a DVD rewriter that supports 5X DVD-RAM write and 16X DVD+/-R/RW.
Asus has announced the launch of the DRW-1608P2S, a DVD rewriter that supports 5X DVD-RAM write, 16X DVD+/-R/RW and 8X DVD+/-R double layer media source.
The DRW-1608P2S supports the latest double layer technology, which almost doubles the DVD+R storage capacity from 4.7GB to 8.5GB, providing up to four hours of DVD quality video archive ability. It offers both 16X DVD-Write and 16X DVD+Write, making it capable of reading from and writing on DVD-Write/ Rewrite and DVD+Write/ Rewrite formats.
With dual-format adopting features, the DRW-1608P2S creates DVDs that can be played and read by most DVD-ROM drives and DVD players.
The DRW-1608P2S has adopted FlextraLink that prevents buffer under-run problems and eliminates the creation of unusable discs, while FlextraSpeed enhances accuracy and reliability when writing and rewriting across a broad range of certified media.
The DRW-1608P2S also features the Asus DDSS II (Double Dynamic Suspension System II) technology, which minimizes the vibration caused by the spindle motors and resonance between components as well as the drive and PC case. LCT (Liquid Crystal Tilt) technology provides enhanced pick-up, head line up accuracy during recording and playback on disks, with the uneven curvature and surfaces of discs.
The specifications of the writer are 5X DVD-RAM, 16X DVD-R, 6X DVD-RW, 16X DVD+R, 8X DVD+RW, 8X DVD " R (DL), 16X DVD-ROM, 40X CD-R/32X CD-RW/40X CD-ROM and comes with the latest Nero & Ulead Software.

I am buy a DVD RAM, when i am write any cd then show all things ok but after burn those cd show empty no data show but property show 200 free space and 500 do write. Serial no. 79D0AA520246.

I HAD AN ASUS DVD WRITER DRW-1604P WHICH TAKE ABOUT 40 MINUTES TO BURN A 4.3GB MOVIE BUT NOW AM USING THE ASUS DVD WRITER DRW-1608P2S AND IT TAKES ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES TO BURN THE SAME 4.3GB MOVIE. PLEASE COULD YOU TELL ME WHY THIS IS HAPPENING ?

why not go for a Hp DVD RW it is just great...I had purchased a Hp dvd rw a few days back and its working fine. Though it costs a little more than its other competitors.

Friends, I had bought a ASUS CD Writer in 2004 and EXACTLY 1 year after I bought it, it went DEAD and there was nothing I could do because it was just out of warranty. Forget writing, I had not used it to even read 50 CDs (my usage is not very high). And there's absolutely no other hardware problem with my PC. After that, I have decided to never, ever go in for any ASUS product, ever !!! Even contacting ASUS and letting them know about my grievance did not help (apparently, they think that not replying to a customers' e-mail is pretty much OK). I'm sure that ASUS products are definitely of much inferior quality than Sony or Samsung (a friend has an LG CD writer and is using it for more than 4 years. Written about 3000 CDs, but still, no problem whatsoever). Bottomline: NEVER buy any ASUS product, always pay a bit more and get a quality product like Sony.

my asus DRW-1608P2S DVD Writer has again some defects. before also, i had some problem in this model( was not able to read or write any dvd/cd). it worked fine for 2 -3 weeks then suddenly gave problem. i got it replaced. the new 1 worked very well for 2 3 weeks and then again giving me same problem. i have damaged my 4 dvds... i wont recommend any1 to buy this

Since you're saying that the problem occured on both the writers after 2-3 weeks, the problem would lie in your SMPS where it's providing either too much or too little voltage, thus damaging the parts inside

The RRP for the Asus DRW 1608P2S is $79 australian dollars. Prices vary from $65 to $88.

That is a Pioneer dvr-110 drive. a sweet one, available @ lamington Rd & Nehru Place respectively. Can be crossflashed (if you know what I mean) to a REAL PIONEER ! Awesome drive.

DRW-1608P is available for INR Rs. 3200 at Nehru Place. The DRW-1608P2 is not available with stockists at the time I am writing this post.
