Techtree News Staff, Sep 13, 2007 1842 hrs IST

This new range comprises of the iPod Touch with a multi-touch user interface; the new iPod Nano with video playback; and iPod Classic holding up to 40,000 songs.

Today, Apple introduced its all new range of iPods with enhanced user interface and new design in the country.

This new range from Apple comprises of the iPod Touch with a multi-touch user interface; the all new iPod Nano with video playback; and iPod Classic holding up to 40,000 songs.

The new iPod Touch features the multi-touch interface that enables users to find and enjoy all of their music, videos, photos and more on its 3.5-inch widescreen display with just the touch of a finger. This is the same interface used in Apple's popular iPhone.

The iPod Touch also includes Wi-Fi wireless networking, and three other applications using this network; Safari browser for mobiles, YouTube, and the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store.

The 8mm thin iPod Touch features up to 22 hours of audio playback and up to 5 hours of video playback. It is scheduled to be available in October in two capacities; 8GB for Rs 17,700 and 16 GB for Rs 23,600. Though they announced the launch of the iPod Touch at the conference, they didn't have a sample to show.

The second on the list is a new-generation iPod Nano featuring a large two-inch display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution, support for video playback, and an enhanced user interface.

The new iPod Nano comes in four new colors-silver, black, blue, and green. It delivers up to 24 hours of audio playback or 5 hours of video playback on a single charge.

This new-generation iPod Nano is available immediately in 4 GB for Rs 8,800 and 8 GB for Rs 11,400.

Last but not the least is the new iPod Classic, which is nothing new but a slimmer iPod with increased capacity.

Featuring 80GB and 160GB of storage, the sixth generation iPod Classic delivers all old features plus an enhanced user interface featuring Cover Flow and a new all-metal enclosure.

The 80GB model features up to 30 hours of music playback and 5 hours of video playback, while the 160GB model supports up to 40 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Both iPod Classic models are available immediately in silver and black. The 80GB iPod Classic model is priced at Rs 14,500 and the 160GB model is priced at Rs 20,400.

The entire new line-up of Apple iPods are encased in a new all-metal design made with anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel.

it is because of taxes the value for each electronic appliance is high. My advice catch a colleague or a relative who wll travel to USA and return. You can ask them.I have asked my colleague to buy one for me.It costs 6k less for a 160 GB in the States

This is interesting but have they improved on the sound quality and atleast bundle better quality ear plugs. I have never found Apple to sound anywhere as good as Creative players

My uninformed friend and IPOD has earplugs that sound far better than any Creative Speaker. Plz don't buy stuff from the Grey Market and start comparing it to the real thing.

I totally agree with you. Always wonder how many fools are there. who buy this apple ipods. No FM, no special sound, stuck with apple. Better get SE or Nokia mobile. Sameer

why they are priced much higher than the prices in us??? apple nano 4 gb in us around 6000 rupees here 8800?????why

Because Apple considers India as a third rate country, where Indians could be fooled and milked till dry. We should shun such leechers who think that we Indian are fools.

Instead of passing uninformed comment like above we should actually look at the import duty structure of our country. The ipods have to pay an import duty of over 31 percent and adding to that the respective state's VAT the cost comes out to be pretty much what its stated. Long live the grey market!

by anonymous, delhi, on Sep 14, 2007 07:00 AM, Report abuse

so will the grey market price be around 6000/- ??? coz these products are smuggled in without paying the import duties..but looking at the price of the genuine piece, the "smugglers" will try n increace their margin of profit, bringing us back to 7000/- or even more i guess.

by pa1, mumbhai, on Sep 14, 2007 01:53 PM, Report abuse

I doubt that the duty is as high as 31%. If so, then each and every brand of mp3 player should be much more expensive here than in the US, which is not the case. Apple is just fleecing its customers here. Or, make it potential customers, because at these prices, not many are going to be converted

by Jagannath Moort, Bangalore, on Sep 14, 2007 09:23 PM, Report abuse

it is typical high pricing of all electronic devices, including mobile phones. A lot of it is import tax which the companies have to pay to indian govt. So don't blame companies like Apple. Moreover, don't underestimate the buying power of India, they have more spending power than average americans buried under mortgage payments. Rich people in India are stinking rich and will make wealthy Americans feel shy.

please if you think you deserve an ipod in country where people earn less than a dollar a day....then please be read to loosen your purses...luxury is a precious commodity in a fast developing nation...

by patty, New delhi, on Sep 14, 2007 11:03 PM, Report abuse

31% tax is amazing. Shouldnt Apple pay for some of it (15 or 16%) so they can sell their product in India? I think that's only fair...they pay 1/2 and you pay 1/2. Or get one of your friends/relatives to get you one when they come back to India for a visit.
