If reports are to be believed, late Thursday, some sixty fans queued up outside Apple's New York store even as they braved the rains, armed with umbrellas...
The 29th of June is here, yet there's a few more agonizing hours to the release of Apple Computer's much hyped iPhone.
Talk about the madness brought-on by an upcoming pocket-sized gizmo, and we have a case in point...
Even as the national iPhone obsession threatens to spiral out-of-control, the device that's going to be a phone, a Web browser, and a music player -- all rolled into one, has seen and kept hundreds of sleepless fans waiting outside Apple stores across the US through the wee hours of Thursday and before...
And these breathless fans want but one thing -- to be the first to get their hands on Apple's aspirational iPhone.
If reports are to be believed, late Thursday, some sixty fans queued up outside Apple's store in New York city even as they braved the rains, armed with umbrellas and other rain gear.
One Greg Packer (43) got lucky as he bagged first place in the queue, having arrived a whole 109 hours before the slated iPhone launch. Needless to say, with hordes of reporters hovering around him, his was an instant claim to fame...
Packer lost no time gushing about the iPhone, saying he would get his iPod, iPhone, and Internet all in one gadget. He even said he was planning on buying two iPhones...
Another source remarked it was getting kind of difficult to grab some sleep at night with all the frenzy surrounding the launch of the iPhone.
And coming to the root of it all, the iPhone itself, Apple is saying the gizmo will marry together several portable technologies -- mobile phone, camera, Web browser, music and video player into one pocket-sized must-have.
Again, the iPhone will have no mechanical keyboard, and will allow all the controlling to be done via the touch of a finger. Sporting a three-and-a-half-inch touch-screen, iPhone will have 4 to 8GB of flash memory to store all kinds of media files. And it will not weigh more than 4 ounces, according to Apple.
The iPhone: the 4GB model will come for $499, while the 8GB one will carry a price tag of $599. Besides, the device will come with a mandatory two-year wireless contract with AT&T.
All said, afficianados in India have an even longer wait to get a feel of this gadget, as word is out it is not coming to Asia anytime before 2008.

guys, Apple as always had been a trend setter. Am sure, it gonna be a hard job to unlock it. Well, its expected to launch sometime early in 2008. Lets wait & get d user updates till then.
We should be able to choose our mode of payment with our service provider, with this touch tecnology phone.
The service provider should not charge more than Rs.500/-per month for this service.
Hmmm.... using the Edge netwrok is something that raises eyebrows but there is the upside to using the Wi-Fi. Perhaps to early to buy?? It will only get better as the product itself matures. If you got the extra $$, go get em! If its a stretch, wait for the cheaper and the better version of the future!
There are already a number of so-called iPhone applications in beta stages that you can test on supported browsers like Safari, IE7 and Firefox
www.mp4-converter.net/zune-converter/
crap....all these features are there in any sony walkman phone or even the nokia nseries.....why wait??? It does not arouse one paisa of excitement in me
Very attractive design and as usual it is a very well designed phone from Apple. What is the hype all about ? What is really different (feature) in this phone ? even old features in other phones like FM radio, voice dialling, SMS reader (Voice). Even in 2005 phones had TV inbuilt in it. Windows mobile based g-smart 120 from Gigabyte for example sports all this and many more features like recording of calls, background noice dubbing (airport, traffic, etc.,) while communicating, voice recorder etc., This phone is available for $497 and works almost any where in the world (unlocked).
Considering that iPhone has Mac OS X, this beauty should allow you to install applications. BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE! The only apps you can run on this phone are the AJAX apps which run in the browser..and AJAX cannot use the Power of the iPhone Hardware but just runs in the limitations of the browser..Not a phone for me until n unless I get it for free :P
No buddy! iPhone does run a version of OS X but it is definitely not the same as being run on full fledged computer systems. You can check out http://daringfireball.net/2007/01/os_x if you wanna clear your doubts.
Whooaaa.....was waiting for this for long.......but now i have 1 query....if we get the fone from US...wont it work here in india?
considerin that it supports all the frequencies...it shud work..rite?
Well understood. It supports GSM and supposed to work in India. But unfortunately most phone manufacturers in the US have tie up with a few service providers. Thus 95% of the mobiles sold in the US are tied up with a service. If you have get that working in India, you have wait for a few more months. I don't think the unlocked phones would come into market very soon.
yes, it shud... but it wont...
as u need unlock key and as per the speculations.... at&t is not going to give unlock code for few months....
as they are in contract with apple... and early termination fees is 175 dollars or u keep paying money every month for its usage for next 2 yrs...
Saurabh, You are right, depening on the operators in india like Airtel, Hutch, etal, their operating frequencies this phone is capable of working in India. But these phones which you buy in USA are locked to AT &T Operator. Any other sim would not work unless you unlock the phone. Kind of hacking which is not very difficult. But at the same time mishandling the unlock operation would render the phone useless. Consider before buying ?
aahhh........ not coming to Asia before 2008, what??? we were waiting for this phone since january2007, and a news says that it will not be launched before 2008 in the worlds biggest mobile user's province. whatta....nokia will sure clean up their market since 2008 in Asia as their strategy. even nokia is planning to launch 888, their gadget strap-on phone in 2008. so who will wait for iPhone, and whatta..... is LG doing....where is Prada?? where is Shine???...... for India i m talkin about..... keep waiting indian fellas........
apple can get the f$^# out of here man , why are we always treated as second rate country
release in india in 2008!!!!!
i can understand a release later in the month or max to max 2months

If people spent more time/money trying to be kinder to others and less idiocy on gadgets like the iphone (which has the potential of doing nothing more than giving some people what the think is ego gratification) we wouldn't have such an increasingly isolative and selfish society. Technology is great, but if we examined it's true impact on society we'd realize how detrimental it can be. Technology such as the iphone does not make life easier; it keeps the poor poorer and it makes those who can afford such stupid and high-priced toys into materialistic buffoons. Of course, Madison Avenue loves it's stupid constituents. However, I am not one of them. I can easily afford this gadget but would never buy it. Who needs it? Ridiculous!
You are correct in everything you just said but come on! The new iphone is a great device for silly people (like myself) who can afford it. Besides, it already too late to be saying all of this because portable technology is already old news. I wish you had spoken up in 1995 then I think people might have listened. Anyway, Bring on the iphone! I got mine and I LOVE it!!
LISTEN UP!
The phone only useful if you are planning to use many of the features of the phone. If you just using it for a phone, it a complete waste of money. At least 50% of cell phone users regardless how many features cell phone offfers only use as a cell phone. Your paying for features and services that you dont use, it lunacy.
Waiting for the day when this phone get reviewed especially on TECHTREE.GuYS ARE U LISTENING IN THE TECHTREE.DO GET US A REVIEW OF THIS PHONE.Thsi is certainly one revied we are waitin` for.THE PHONE SURE LOOKS A KILLER TO ME,LETS SEE THE FEATURES,IF THEY HAVE SOMETHING NEW TO OFFER ....!!!!
this is just WRONG.
Launch date is 29th june 6pm US time which would be 30th June 8AM INDIA time.
And anyway, iphone isnt coming to india officially till next year
