According to Apple, Windows users are going to be really impressed when they see how fast and intuitive Web browsing can be with Safari...
Apple Computer's newly-launched 'Safari 3' is the world's fastest and easiest-to-use Web browser for Windows PCs and Macs, claims Apple.
The company expects Safari to join the ranks of iTunes in delivering a legendary user experience to both Windows and Mac users.
The 'Safari 3' browser features easy-to-manage bookmarks, easy tabs for effortless browsing, and built-in RSS reader for quick scanning of latest news and information.
Speaking on the occasion, Steve Jobs, Chief Executive Officer of Apple, said, "We think Windows users are going to be really impressed when they see how fast and intuitive Web browsing can be with Safari. Hundreds of millions of Windows users already use iTunes, and we look forward to turning them on to Safari's superior browsing experience too."
Apple has always maintained that Safari is the fastest browser on the Mac. Now the company is saying Safari is the fastest browser on Windows as well, loading and drawing Web pages up to twice as fast as Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, and up to 1.6 times as fast as Mozilla Firefox 2.
Besides, Apple says the speed of Safari combined with its intuitive user surface would allow users spend more time surfing the Web, and less time waiting for pages to load.
Other features of Safari now available to Windows users include: SnapBack for one-click access to an initial search query; resizable text fields; and private browsing to ensure that a user's browsing history is not stored.
Safari 3 for Windows requires Windows XP or Windows Vista, a minimum of 256 MB of memory, and at least a 500 MHz Intel Pentium processor. Whereas, Safari 3 for Mac OS X requires Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.9 or later, a minimum of 256MB of memory, and is designed to run on any Intel-based Mac or Mac with a PowerPC G5, G4, or G3 processor and built-in FireWire.
Meanwhile, a free test version of Safari 3 is now available to the public as download at http://www.apple.com/safari. The final version would be available as free download to users of both Mac OS X and Windows in October this year, the company said.
The bookmarks cannot be added from Firefox. I have bookmarks in firefox and unable to import them to Safari. Initially while installing I had not imported my bookmarks. Now there is no option to update them.
Safari is more like a rip off of Mozilla Firefox.
* The looks are crispier than Firefox - luv it
* Features are still half baked and need finishing
* Its better in matter of speed.
What I like is that users will definitely enjoy more now with more competition in the market.
I have used Safari on Mac 5G. It is nothing to write home about. In my books it sucks. Even SeaMonkey is better than safari. Before I switched to Firefox I had tried several versions of Opera. Although everyone was giving it hot reviews it never worked right & kept hanging & crashing. The latest versions that I hve tried is much more stable & seems to be good but don't have the patience to learn something new when my old faithful is working so well.
Safari opens links in new tabs, but does not switch to them, it is hard to tell which tab is the current one, Ctrl. W often doesn't close tabs, but then closes the application, and you have to manually select the URL if you want to copy and paste it. Safari is dead for me, and I'm back to FireFox!!!
Nobody is talking about Opera, which is very good and speedy browser. When it comes to multi tab, Firefox closes all tabs while exiting and then you have to start from new again every time. This is annoying to me. I am using Opera from the day one it was launched. I am satisfied with the speed and the new additions every new versions. The new version gives you many options and storing of the sites visited. I think it clear that Opera is much better.
well vijay, lemme inform u about the new version of firefox....u r talkin about the older one....in new version it alerts u...whn u accidently close the window...n next time it'll restore the session i.e the tabs u r browsing if u allow it to do so...buddy i m using firefox for the last yr ..n believe me its much better ...try the newer version...
opera has some problems while page loading.. i hav seen tht its not compatible with all pages....
Firefox latest version opens all the tabs that were open last time before being closed. with the list of plugins available it is also good. different people have different view :-)
well claims are just that, claims. Ive checked it out against a wristwatch ( yep .. its amazing what analog devices can still do ) and firefox comes out tops on speed. Plus the customisability factor .. and most importantly, theres a browser skin resembling safari available as an additional download on addons ... heheh .. AND WHAT IN THE NAME OF PHATTY FACED PETER PAUL AND MARY IS BONJOUR !! Lets face it .. its just free ad space an your screens 24/7 , but they couldve done better ( writes "i shall not jump like a lemming" a 100 times on the blackboard)

Iam viewing this webpage through recently downloaded "Safari Browser for Windows"; though it gives a unique "3D Interface"; however, it not opening "Yahoomail"
as it says that "Unable to establish Secured Connection".Frankly speaking, it is giving a Gr8 Web 2.0 experience with web pages looking "More Funky"!!!
It's decent!!! I like Firefox too. Not bad considering it's a beta version. I primarily use a Mac but have been playing with it on the PC as well. Safari has always been a class act on macs but I think it will compete well with Firefox on the PC. I am not overly picky about browsers and as long as they are fast and have a good feature set I am happy. Both Mozilla and Apple are great and innovative software engineers so in the long run I think it will just be a matter of preference. I am going stick with version 2 for the mac at least until it's out of the beta stages.
