Reports about Apple prepping a touchscreen netbook have come up again. This time in Commercial Times, a chinese news daily.
Seriously, these kinds of rumor reports have been done to death.
It's been reported that Taiwan-based company Wintek is working with Apple for developing certain products but doesn't have information on the applications of those products. As per the Taiwanese company, the shipment is likely to begin in the second quarter of this year.
Ok, so here we have yet another company claiming joint efforts with Apple. But the big Apple isn t ready to throw any light on the much hyped netbook rumors. CEO Steve Jobs said that Apple doesn t know how to make $500 (Rs. 25,000 approx.) Mac that isn t a piece of junk. Well, we think that s why their most affordable computer is available for as low as $600 (Rs. 30,000 approx.).
Apple has been happily selling high specification MacBook Pro and making most out of them. Also, its iPhone and iPod Touch are making fair amount of sales. At the moment, it makes no sense of Apple to join the mad netbook competition.
Apple has just
refreshed its polycarbonate 13-inch MacBook white with Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics. So, introducing a sub $500 netbook is needless on the face. Also, it might affect its MacBook and MacBook Pro sales.
Recently, Apple had
refreshed its desktop Mac line up in which the keyboard was shrunk smaller. If Apple comes out with a netbook, it might incorporate the new keyboard layout which is compact. Incorporation of touchscreen in the netbook might add up to the cost of the production and even price of the netbook will go up.
From our point of view, it would be sheer foolishness if Apple would jump on to the netbook bandwagon which we think Apple wouldn t. However, if Wintek s information stands true, then it would be interesting to see if Apple comes out with smaller iPhone or what everyone dubbed as iPhone nano.
