After Britain and Germany, Apple Computer has launched its much hyped iPhone in yet another European country -- France.
iPhone in France, is available exclusively through Orange, which is the mobile phone- and Internet- arm of France Telecom.
Orange is offering the unlocked iPhone for 649 euros (Rs 38,081 approximately). In case customers wish to access other mobile phone networks, they will have to add 100 euros more (Rs 5,866 approximately) to the cost.
Meanwhile, in Germany, where the iPhone was launched three weeks ago, T-Mobile offers the device without a contract for 999 euros (Rs 58,603 approximately).
According to Orange, over 50,000 people in France have already placed orders for the iPhone. The company is expecting to sell 100,000 handsets by the end of 2007, and expects to add between 400,000 and 500,000 subscribers within the first year.
The iPhone was first launched in the US in June this year, and sold 1.4 million units in the first three months.
Apple is hoping to sell a total of 10 million units in 2008. The iPhone launch in Asia is scheduled for next year.
