Android-based handsets are being pushed for release only in first quarter of 2009.
Yesterday, we reported that Android-based phones could be expected in fourth quarter of 2008. However, latest reports are that the launch may be delayed to Q1 '09. According to Global Equities Research's Trip Chowdhry, HTC is 'having structural problems to incorporate Google's demanded feature set.' Of course, HTC putting in extra efforts to overcome these problems in modifying handsets.
Chowdhry further stated that HTC is uncertain about the demand for Android-based phones and thus 'demands guaranteed minimum revenue surety from Google'. Moreover, Android's move of making SDKs available to developers is not thing new, as major players such as Microsoft, Apple, Research in Motion, and Nokia have already provided SDKs for their operating systems. Early reports also indicate that developers are too addicted to other mobile operating system SDKs to try their hands at Android. The uneventful end of 700 MHz auction has also left things uncertain for Android.
He added that Android-based handsets are being pushed for release only in first quarter of 2009. The mobile operating system scene is heating up with Apple updating iPhone OS, RIM fixing their security issues, Windows Mobiles being revised with new features and Symbian going open source. Google has reasons to worry about the delays in Android.
