Distributor Rashi Peripherals launched the Altec Lansing GT 5051 R, which simulates 5.1-quality surround sound system.
The Altec Lansing GT 5051R 5.1 powered audio surround sound system is now available locally.
The system has a three satellite speakers and one subwoofer. The system has a novel front/rear speaker combo design in which each "rear" speaker is permanently attached to a front speaker in a one-piece vertical stack.
The GT 5051 R system is designed to conserve space, simplify setup and remove cable clutter.
According to Navinder Singh Chauhan, marketing manager, Rashi Peripherals, one of two distributors of Altec Lansing in India, at Rs an estimated street price of Rs 7,400 the product is value for money. "Though it's a 3.1 system it emulates 5.1 surround sound. We would be glad to offer information to interested users but will direct purchases to our authorised resellers. The product is available from today," said Chauhan.
The system achieved surround sound by equipping the top speaker in each stack with patent-pending Side-Firing Dipole Surround technology. This distributes sound from both front and back (hence "dipole"). Audio effects then bounce off walls and boomerang back to the listener, creating the sensation that he/she is standing in the middle of strafing jets, attacking armies, or in the musicians recording studio.
The unit comes with a flat infrared remote to adjust general volume, speaker by speaker and a stand by mode. These controls and the on/off button are also located on the top of the right satellite.
Along with the center speaker and the 5.25-inch ported subwoofer set, users also get connectivity with three inputs that allow connecting a computer, a portable audio device, and a TV, DVD player or console game simultaneously.
The center speaker also allows flexible placement, with a special design that makes it possible to install the center channel either above or below your monitor or TV screen. An auto-detect feature also allows removing the center speaker without dialogue loss.
Vertical stacks meausre less than 4-inch wide, 4-inch deep and 8-inch high, with compact center channel and subwoofer cabinets. Each system includes separate controls for power, master volume, and center, surround and subwoofer volume; ships with a headphone jack for private listening; and includes color-coded cables for easy installation.
The center speaker and the two satellites have a power of 10 watts RMS each while the subwoofer has a 30 watts RMS power. The amplifier power is 80 watts.
Rashi Peripherals' business manager Rohit Agarwal, said, "It's ideal for a person who has already done his wiring for 2.1 speakers and want to install 5.1 speakers. And for someone who is looking for 'less wire' solution or for a layman who does not have an idea about how to place front and rear speakers. It's a style statement as well."

This is a perfect solution for those who listen a lot of music using the office PC. I'm spending 8-10 hours at my job so I connected this speakers to my PC. The real advantage is that everybody in the room enjoys the crystal clear music provided by this system. GREAT JOB Altec Lansing!!!
