they should atleast provide 1 or 2Mbps speed below 1000rs, 1699rs for 1 Mbps is not worth it, in other countries like japan and south korea you get like 200 Mbps for less than 1000rs and in most european countries 50 Mbps is provided for 500rs per month, india still ranks 115th rank at internet speed, they should provide 1mbps plan for 500 or 600rs per month, then it will be good..

200 Mbps ? Dude even if you place your system in US datacenter with servers they will not give you more than 100 Mbps Avergae Broadband speed in US is 2 Mbps with New york having 3.5 Mbps Only Japan has the highest average broadband speed which is 60-80 Mbps

Any chance this is going to be reflected in the Triple Play IPTV plans as well any time soon? Right now, the 512 kbps Triple Play plan still costs Rs. 1,600/-!

Earlier offer of 256 speed with unlimited downloading and a free telephone of 300 calls a month was justified for home user. But the service is yet to be ascertained. Customers are very conscious about quality service,if they push the plan, hope it will work.

Airtel has worked best for me after trying SIFY, Pacenet,Tata- mind yu thru lousy cable operators. Now for 999/- I get 384 kbps UNLIMITED PACKAGE and telephone, no monthly rentals for the instrument ! No extra payement for the ADSL modem ! Service very good and prompt, local sharing wonderful. Now I will check out if we can get the 512 offer at the rates as stated here. Cheers

well i have been a airtel broadband customer . i have to say the company has the best customer care than compared to any other broadband MTNL,BSNL or Reliance . i have been on their 1mbps unlimited @ Rs. 2222 per month .i have to say i would get speed upto 180kbps the speed would never touvh below 150 kbps . But now they have slashed the prices and all the broadband companies have introduced the fair usage policy where they half the bandwidth after 100gb or 80gb but the plan remains Unlimited .... you can download as much as you like as far india's position is concerned ... we had dial up in 2002 i use to use it so ..... cant compare the indian broadband base with american broadband base- the largest in this world . but this is a relieve that finally the broaband is entering INDIA

Sorry to say this but you seem to be little eeek in technical knowledge. Let me educate you, if a service provider is promising you a speed of 1 Mbps in bandwidth, your internet download / upload speed should touch 1024 Kbps. Try this through multiple heavy downloads and watch the max speed, you will know the reality. If you are seeing speeds of 150 to 180 Kbps, either your usage has not been beyond that so without wasting money downgrade to 256/512 Kbps or Airtel is not giving value for money. I personally had a mixed experience with Airtel. Either the service was too good or there was no service for days together. The Service Engineers are too busy attending complaints of other customers so they take their own sweet time to give a solution.

message to Mr. VPN , HYDERABAD : Please verify the facts before you advise someone. When we talk of broadband connection speed, we talk in terms of Kilo bits per second (Kbps) . When we talk about download speed, we talk in terms of Kilo bytes per second (KBps) . So a broadband connection speed of 1 Mbps when converted to bytes per second, would be 1024/8 = 128 KBps. So the above mentioned download speed of 150 - 180 KBps is more than what is expected. :) so buddy, watch out for the small 'b' and capital 'B'

Surprisingly the site doesn't mention anything about Airtel's Fair usage policy, where if you cross a specific data limit then the bandwidth speed gets halved.

by Mohammed younus, hyderabad, on Jul 29, 2009 09:01 PM, Report abuse

The Plan u are talking about is 1099 /- plan where you get 346 kbps in 6am - 10pm and 1mbps 10pm - 6am. Im using that plan

by Gourang, Noida, on Jul 30, 2009 02:23 AM, Report abuse

It is ridiculous actually. My plan costs me approx 850. That gives me 4gb download and 2mbps speed. Now they are giving 1mbps at 1699. Price slash. Yeah right!

May be you need some help in understanding the difference between a limited usage plan and an unlimited usage plan. I would recommend you to speak to a sales officer at Airtel to enlighten you a bit.

Still very expensive...I get almost 12MPBS of speeds from Comcast for $20 a month converted @50 its still only a RS 1000. There is a lot of catching up to do India...

Whats the use of such a stunt when the feasibility check to get a new connections fails even in urban areas. Apart from being attractive to its investors, Bharti should try to provide what is advertised to more customers...I am ready to pay for a 1M line even for a whole year in advance. But it is silly that their network doesnt support providing one new port for an applicant whose neighbor 2 houses away has an airtel line and the sub-pillar is at an arial distance of 150-200m. If they would invest the money in improving penetration, it would have been a better idea.

Very cleverly airtel has only reduced prices for upper monthly rate plans whereas most subscribers are in sub 999 and rates have been increased in those plans.
