Recently, Airtel launched an enhanced version of its virtual card calling service "Airtel CallHome". Now the telecom operator has gone and launched an online contest termed "It happens only in India" to create buzz around the service. "Airtel CallHome", targeted at the 2.5 million-strong NRI community in USA, lets subscribers make calls from the US to India. Airtel claims the service, which can now be purchased online with Indian credit cards, offers unmatched call clarity at great value for money rates.
"It happens only in India" is hosted by rediff.com's social networking platform i-share, and is spread across a period of eight weeks. The contest is accessible at www.ithappensonlyinindia.net.
A participant has to simply upload a video or photo of a funny, quirky, uniquely Indian moment featuring himself, his friends or family, or just about anyone else. All such uploaded videos and photos would be ranked by a jury in order of their popularity, and most viewed uploads will stand to win prizes including digital cameras and iPods every week. The most popular upload at the end of eight weeks will win a bumper prize of a free return ticket to India.
Said Arun Bharadwaj, head (Calling Card Services) of Bharti Airtel, of the service, "We're aiming to encourage a light-hearted celebration of Indianness". Added Sumer Mehta, associate vice president of Rediff.com "This property provided a platform to NRIs to share what they miss the most: doing things truly, deeply, madly Indian".
