It seems to be a marketing ploy. Google hopes to get 700k new members, but many would already have been, so no advantage. Bharti would want to create a buzz about their broadband services and lift up their rusting rotting webportal. But people are not going to buy this as it requires REAL innovation to attract online users when so many alternatives are available.

It's not about existing customers. It's about new ones. The Google deal will improve the portal for Airtel subscribers because the backend will change as well. Nobody will to switch to Airtel broadband because of Google's services, but everybody who uses it will probably benefit from them, as will anybody who switches to Airtel for any other reason

Clearly Techtree has a number of readers who are completely unaware of what is happening around the world in the Internet services space. Google's Apps program - http://www.google.com/a - is being used to power email and other services for Airtel broadband subscribers. Yes, it is free to use Google products. Now Google is providing the tools to Airtel to offer the same products to their subscribers along with the broadband Internet connection. Next time you talk about something, I suggest reading, learning and understanding what's going on before talking undecipherable nonsense about it.

Question is : will airtel be charging for the internet usage of google, gmail, etc? Is that also free now ?

Who pays the guy who wrote this story. Or better still who are the guys preparing the marketing and outreach for the company. For internet users its like saying you radio set will play AIR for free.

Attempt is made to hoodwink people that Airtel has done something creditable to get get Google. Actually Google is available to everyonr on the internet. Google mail is always 2GB or more. MTNL triband has it even dialup has it! What Airtel is trying to do is to make itself a laughing stock among internet users.

AIRTEL: Go and correct the basic facilities on the website first. For the last 10 days, BILL-PAYMENT via CREDIT-CARD has been DISABLED and there is not even a notice on when it will get enabled again. Why do you want to fool people around with JAZZY STUFF which anyway are available free?

Airtel broadcast service is the best here in Bangalore.... However, this new offer seems interesting.. but most of these are already free... it sounds to me like google.com/i page....

by Bei, Bangalore, on Aug 09, 2007 12:44 AM, Report abuse   Reply

AirTel always offer thing free, which are already free. Then AirTel say we are offering Innovative and enhanced service free. Is this is your Innovation? This is more or less like a copy-paste service.

what fun! Airtel offering free what is already free! Another example of making fool of consumers..

Is this their diversionary tactic for drawing attention from their pathetic fraudband ripoff? C'mon Airtel give us a decent unlimited megabit connection first.

by Jagannath Moort, Bangalore, on Aug 08, 2007 04:00 PM, Report abuse   Reply

I am surprised that this piece of article is even making news. Whats the great deal in offering email/search/IM? All this is available for free anyways. This is just a modification of Google For Your Domain service, which is available for free and much more useful. "Commitment to innovation and collaboration" what is so innovative about it?

It appears all these Google web applications are available for Free. The announcement should have distinguished between what is free and what is extra that Airtel will offer.

i don't see any specific advantage as i don't use airtel's online services while the google services are already available to anyone. Infact Airtel webmail doesn't support Macintosh platform. So while i enjoy airtel broadband, i will continue using open-to-public Google services without worrying about change of ISPs.

big deal ...... offering free locally what is offered free internationally .... Airtel you have to do this on your Airtel Live .... no logic in offering this to your broadband users ... wasting your time
