Adobe Shipping v 1.1 Media Player

Techtree News Staff, Jul 22, 2008 1936 hrs IST

With v1.1, users will also get to watch new CBS shows including Beverly Hills 90210, 48 Hours, and The Love Boat.

A new version Adobe Media Player (1.1) is shipping today -- complete with a new interface and a new deal in place with Sony Pictures whereby users can watch full-length movies the likes of Jerry Maguire and Men in Black.

Nearly 600 shows and 25,000 episodes will be available to watch, according to Ashley Still, Senior Product Manager for Adobe Media Player. Users can select favorites from amongst different content categories, even subscribe to video feeds through RSS.

With v1.1, users will also get to watch new CBS shows including Beverly Hills 90210, 48 Hours, and The Love Boat. All shows can be encoded in the Flash video format (FLV) or in H.264.

Furthermore, as per the new deal, it will be up to the content providers to make content available either in streaming format or in a format save-able to the user's hard drive. Advertisements too will be under their control with a certain undisclosed share of ad revenues going to Adobe.

While Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) in Adobe Media Player would typically allow the software to run on computers running Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems, Adobe maintains it will run only on computers running Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.
