Adobe Patches Reader 8 Flaws

Patched for the fifth time this year
Adobe has patched eight flaws in its Reader and Acrobat applications.
As per records, Reader has been patched for the fifth time this year. These flaws don't affect Reader 9 and Acrobat 9. However, those with Reader 8 and who can't update to Reader 9 need to install the Reader 8.1.3 update.
Core Security had issued an advisory that mentioned about the JavaScript-based buffer overflow exploitation flaw that crept in through specially crafted codes (read: carrying a malicious code). A similar flaw was reported in the Foxit Reader back in May this year, but the back and forth between Adobe and Core took time, until this patch was issued.
Core Security's CEO refused to comment on the time lag at Adobe's end. The security advisory had noted the critical vulnerabilities, which were based on JavaScript codes and the Reader's download manager.
The JavaScript bugs and the flaws affect machines that have Reader 8.1.2 or earlier versions as well as Acrobat 8.1.2 Professional, 3D, Standard, or earlier versions installed. Therefore, Reader 8 users should update to Reader 9 to secure against potential vulnerabilities.
