Adobe Flash for iPhone Soon

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen revealed that Adobe is working on a custom Flash solution for the iPhone platform. This has surprised many, including us, since Apple's stringent terms-of-service has led to the rejection of Flash in the past.
Adobe has been offering the Flash version for desktops, but Steve Jobs said that it ran slow on the iPhone. The desktop version was CPU-intensive and consumed a lot of battery power. Also, Adobe's slimmed-down Flash version called Flash Lite was rejected by Apple; the reason given was that it wasn't capable to work with the Web on iPhone.
Adobe was contacted by Jobs to develop a custom Flash version for the iPhone platform. Developing a custom Flash application for the iPhone is a technical challenge, said Narayen, and that is indeed true.
The iPhone being a different platform needs special programming attention, which requires funds. Adobe of course will take up this challenge since it's already facing indirect competition from Microsoft's Silverlight. It's difficult to state whether Apple and Microsoft will collaborate on the Silverlight platform development for iPhone. But it's no secret that Microsoft is pushing Silverlight against Flash to website developers.
For the common man, the collaboration between Apple and Adobe shouldn't result in having to install a separate Adobe pack from the Adobe website, hopefully. Let's pray that Apple includes the Flash update, whenever it comes out, in the iPhone firmware updates. We'll have to wait till Apple approves Adobe's iPhone-only Flash solution.
