Well into the second day of 2007, and we thought it a good idea to share with our readers - what a couple of leading mobile phone dealers recommended as the best handsets on the market today...
While the Nokia 6600, the Nokia N73, the Sony Ericsson P990i, the Motorola Ming, and the Motorola Razr v3i emerged as the unanimous choice of most dealers we spoke to, these guys also made it a point to appraise us of a few good handsets under each brand.
Favorites under Nokia were the 6600, the 6630, the 6030, the N73, the N70, and the E61. Under Sony Ericsson, the P990i, the K750i, and the W810i scored points. Under brand Motorola, the Ming, the Razr v3i, the W220, and the C168 remained handsets of choice. The dealers also mentioned Samsung's D500 and DSP100 Bluetooth.
What came across is that Nokia is the undisputed leader, the user interface, the battery life, the Symbian platform, some of the brand's plus points. What also came across is that Sony Ericsson's music mobiles and camera phones are quite popular, while Motorola's spiffy new designs are a hit - especially with the younger crowd. Samsung, on the other hand, is sought after for its affordable pricing.
And, as no list is complete without prices, here goes:
The Nokia 6600 is an imaging phone featuring advanced messaging capabilities and the ability to capture and playback video. The 6600 is available for around Rs 8,400.
The Nokia N73 is a bar-type multimedia phone, with a 3.2 megapixel camera featuring Carl Zeiss optics. This phone is available for around Rs 22,200.
The Sony Ericsson P990i is an upgraded version of the P910i, and features Wi-Fi, a 2.0 megapixel camera, and QVGA color display. The P990i comes for approximately Rs 31,000.
The Moto Ming sports business card reader software, and is useful for professionals. The Ming is priced at around Rs 13,900.
Motorola's Razr v3i enjoys the reputation of being one of the most stylish phones, and is available for around Rs 9,400.
A Symbian OS v 8.0 phone, the Nokia 6630, is priced at around Rs 11,900.
The Nokia 6030 enables users send multimedia messages (text, sound, pictures), and is available for around Rs 3,900.
A WCDMA/EDGE imaging phone, the Nokia N70 is a smart and elegant imaging tool for real time visual sharing. In addition to MMS, e-mail, Bluetooth, WAP 2.0 (XHTML) browsing, and Java technology, the phone features two integrated cameras: a 2.0-megapixel back camera, and a VGA front camera with two-way video calling and real time video sharing application. The N70 is available for around Rs 18,500.
Nokia's E61 is optimized for business users, and is priced between Rs 19,000 and Rs 20,000.
Touted as the first phone to feature a 2mp autofocus camera with exceptional image quality and flash, the Sony Ericsson K750i is available for approximately Rs 10,900.
A Walkman phone built on the K750i platform, the Sony Ericsson W810i is priced at about Rs 14,000.
The Motorola W220 has SMS, EMS, and MMS features, and comes with a WAP 2.0/xHTML browser. This phone is priced at around Rs 5,800.
The Motorola C168 is priced affordably at around Rs 2,900.
The Samsung D500 is available for approximately Rs 13,500; while the Samsung DSP100 Bluetooth is available for approximately Rs 2,600.
So, all you guys out there, happy shopping!

Guys, looking at all the comments I am also encouraged to put something from my side.. I believe SE 810i rocks over the N72.. Just look at the differenced.. SE got IR+Bluetooth interface.. whereas Nokia only with Bluetooth.. SE got Java based interface.. Nokia with Symbian OS.. but this OS suks.. really.. try using it.. it hangs.. gives errors.. Often need restart.. but SE.. no probs at all.. Nokia gives hardly 3 hrs talktime.. where SE 810i.. amazing.. 5 hrs at least.. So Nokia days are over.. SE is rocking..

what exactly is the Samsung DSP100 Bluetooth? And honestly, i find the motorola interfaces a bit dumb ... i mean, you could argue that i wud have said it was too complex if it were otherwise, but still ... the GUI is just a bit too plain jane, for such a stylish fone like the RAZR ...

On low end models Nokia was alwasys the leader. After launching N-Series it has won the competition in high end market too. These phones have amazing multimedia features with very competitive price tag.And as with all nokia phones very good battery life, signal reception and durability

SE Rocks!! Nokia has got serious competion these days from SE, Motorola ...

Nokia is no longer the leader guyz!! Its just "naam bade aur daeshan khote". The new Nokia phones have a slower interface and they are pretty bulky. SE stands tall for good productivity, music and connectivity in handsets. The SE W810i would be the best buy in sub 15k range. While Motorola stands good for style and average to low priced handsets.

Hi man Nokia is the undisputed leader for sure, due to n number of reasons as mentioned in the article. I think the article has said what the major crowd has to say and many of us agree with it. The N series is certainly bulky but they are ment for the business class who feel that they are amazing so why should u and i complain?

Signal Coverage is better in Nokia than all other brands! That's why we call Nokia, the Market Leader! Those People who live in city could not find any signal problem in all brands... but in rural area - where the signal strength is poor - Nokia Rules!... also note that - in signal reception... SE sucks!

the first two words should be "signal reception"...
