A Kill Switch that Controls the iPhone?

A Kill Switch that Controls the iPhone?

Techtree News Staff, Aug 08, 2008 1740 hrs IST

Rumors are that this kill switch is capable of instantly removing an application if Apple deems it inappropriate.

There's much heat and dust in cyberspace, ever since a "kill switch" (a URL) in the iPhone was discovered.

If reports are to be believed, this kill switch is capable of instantly removing an application if Apple deems it inappropriate.

Jonathan Zdziarski, a blogger and self-proclaimed geek, writes on his blog about discovering this URL (https://iphone-services.apple.com/clbl/unauthorizedApps) while he was playing around with the iPhone's 2.0 software. This, some believe, is a self-updating mechanism that controls the applications present on the iPhone.

While some claim the URL works like an anti-virus for the iPhone, intended to protect it from faulty apps, others are contemplating what this could possibly do. But one thing's for certain right now: nobody seems to know what it's really for.

Not surprisingly, there's no word from Apple about this newfound "kill switch".
